Wild Things can’t score, blanked again

O’FALLON, Mo. – Four games into the Frontier League season and the Wild Things’ offense is missing in action.
Washington was shut out by the River City Rascals for the second consecutive game, 4-0, Sunday at CarShield Field.
The Wild Things (1-3) have not scored since the second inning Friday, a string of 25 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings. It is the longest scoreless streak in franchise history.
Artemis Kadkhodaian hit a three-run homer and four River City pitchers combined on a six-hit shutout.
Washington fell behind 1-0 in the third inning when Trevor Achenbach hit a leadoff triple off Washington starter Nick Wegmann (0-1) and scored on a single by Kameron Esthay.
Wegmann pitched 41/3 innings, giving up five hits, four walks and three runs. He left with two runners on base in the fifth.
Kadkhodaian hit his home run with two outs in the fifth off reliever B.J. Sabol to give the Rascals a 4-0 lead. That was more than enough offense against the foundering Wild Things offense.
Dalton Roach (1-0) allowed two hits and struck out five in five innings.
Wander Franco and J.J. Fernandez each had two hits for the Wild Things, who will begin a three-game series Tuesday at Schaumburg before returning for the home opener Friday night against Lake Erie.
