Wild Things shut out by Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Pat McGuff pitched eight shutout innings and struck out 11 as the Evansville Otters blanked the Wild Things 3-0 Tuesday night in a Frontier League series opener at Bosse Field.

McGuff (3-0) allowed only five hits. He did walk four. Danny Hrbek got the final three outs for his first save.

Washington has lost nine of its last 11.

Ryan Long hit a solo home run off Washington starter Michael Austin (1-2) to give Evansville a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. A sacrifice fly by Dakota Phillips made it 2-0 in the sixth.

Austin gave up four hits and two runs in 5 2/3 innings.

J.J. Gould, the No. 9 hitter in the Otters’ lineup, had an RBI single in the seventh inning.
