Bianca Jasper, Monica Burns and Shauna Harrison all scored in double figures as California rode a strong first half to defeat Central State (Ohio), 68-57, in a nonconference game.
Cal, ranked 13th in Division II, made 16 of 29 shots from the field and jumped out to a 42-28 halftime lead after a 26-point second quarter.
Jasper scored a team-high 15 points. Burns and Harrison finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the Vulcans, who improve to 5-0 overall.
Central State’s Brooke Spaulding led all scorers with 17 points as the Marauders fell to 2-3.
Case Western 96, Waynesburg 79: Peters Township graduate Isabella Mills was one of three players who scored in double figures to help Case Western Reserve to a 96-79 victory over Waynesburg in a nonconference game in Cleveland.
Mills scored 18 points on 6 of 10 shooting and sinking all four free throws. She also pulled down 11 rebounds for a double-double for the Spartans (1-4). Abbey Lawrence led Case with 19 points.
Zoie Smith led five scorers in double figures with 17 points for Waynesburg (0-3). Alli Delany added 14 points, Brooke Fuller and Anika Dansby scored 11 points apiece and Andrea Orlosky scored 10 points.
Men’s Result
Freedonia 77, Waynesburg 64: DyDy Bryant and De’Quan Smith each scored 24 points to lead Freedonia to a 77-64 victory over Waynesburg in a nonconference game at Marisa Fieldhouse.
The game was tied, 28-28 at halftime but Freedonia (3-1) of Wilburforce, Ohio, outscored the Yellow Jackets (0-3), 49-36, in the second half.
Brennan Smith led Waynesburg with 18 points and Isaiah Alonzo contributed 13. Frank Bozicevic chipped in 11 points and Sam Heeter had 10.
