Miguel Rojas’ two-run single capped a three-run second inning and four pitchers combined on an eight-hitter to lead the Miami Marlins past the New York Mets 4-0 on Tuesday night in the first game of a doubleheader.

It was the Mets’ first game since a player and a coach tested positive for the coronavirus.

The Mets put runners on in every inning against the quartet of Dan Castano, Richard Bleier, Brad Boxberger and Brandon Kintzler but went 1 for 12 with runners on base.

Tampa Bay 4, Baltimore 2: Tyler Glasnow struck out a career-high 13 over seven innings and the AL East-leading Tampa Bay Rays beat the Baltimore Orioles 4-2.

Glasnow (1-1) fanned nine of his final 10 batters. The 6-8 right-hander allowed two runs, five hits and one walk.

Hunter Renfroe and Manuel Margot hit back-to-back homers for the Rays, who have won eight of 10.

Edgar García got the final two outs with a runner on second, claiming his first career save.

Houston 6, L.A. Angeles 3: Rookie Cristian Javier threw well into the sixth inning, protecting a big lead and sending the Houston Astros over the Los Angeles Angels 6-3 Tuesday in the opener of a doubleheader created by the approach of Hurricane Laura.

The storm was expected to make landfall on the Gulf Coast either Wednesday night or Thursday morning. The Angels-Astros game scheduled for Thursday was shifted to become part of the doubleheader, and Wednesday’s game was postponed.

This was just the second twinbill in the history of Minute Maid Park, a stadium with a retractable roof that opened in 2000. The Astros played a doubleheader against the Mets on Sept. 2, 2017, following Hurricane Harvey, which caused severe flooding in the Houston area.

Jack Mayfield’s two-run single capped a five-run first inning. Two runs scored on a throwing error by Jose Suarez (0-2).

Francona dealing with blood clotting issue: The Cleveland Indians may be without manager Terry Francona even longer than expected.

Francona has already missed 15 games with a gastrointestinal issue, and Chris Antonetti, the team’s president of baseball operations, disclosed that the 61-year-old manager has also been dealing with blood clotting problems.

Antonetti said doctors at the Cleveland Clinic inserted a stent last week to help Francona’s blood flow “around what was a clogged filter in his veins.”

Antonetti said there is no timetable on when Francona will be back but indicated it could be some time before the two-time World Series champion can return.

“The outlook is obviously very good, but he’s banged up from the procedure,” Antonetti said.

Indians recall Clevinger: The Indians are ready to give starter Mike Clevinger another chance – and the ball.

Cleveland will recall Clevinger to pitch Wednesday against the Minnesota Twins for the time since he and teammate Zach Plesac broke team rules and Major League Baseball COVID-19 protocols and were demoted for their behavior.

“It’s time to start the healing process with those guys,” said interim manager Sandy Alomar Jr.

LeBlanc out for season: The Baltimore Orioles have placed left-hander Wade LeBlanc on the 60-day injured list with a season-ending elbow problem.

LeBlanc walked off the mound in the first inning of Sunday’s game against Boston after experiencing elbow tightness. The injury has been diagnosed as a stress reaction.

Signed to a minor league contract in January, LeBlanc earned a big league deal in July and worked his way into the starting rotation of the rebuilding Orioles. The 36-year-old started six games, going 1-0 with an 8.06 ERA.

Interleague

Yankees-Braves ppd: The New York Yankees’ game against the Atlanta Braves was postponed Tuesday night because of inclement weather, delaying the debut of Ian Anderson and the return of Aaron Judge and Ronald Acuña Jr.

Anderson, the No. 3 overall pick in 2016 and the Braves’ top pitching prospect, was set to face New York ace Gerrit Cole (4-0). Cole has a 20-game winning streak in the regular season, one of the longest in baseball history.

But heavy rains rolled through Atlanta throughout the day, and the forecast didn’t improve much as game time approached. Just before the scheduled first pitch, the game was postponed and a doubleheader was scheduled for today between the interleague opponents.
