MONESSEN — Avella fell behind early, but rallied with 20-unanswered points to erase a one-point halftime deficits and claim a 20-7 victory over Monessen.

Isiah Beltram staked the host Greyhounds to a 7-0 lead with 7:44 left in the first quarter, but Monessen struggled to find much more offense in a night dominated late by the Eagles.

With just 46 second left before halftime, Avella finally opened its scoring, as quarterback K.J. Rush connected with Tanner Terensky for a 25-yard touchdown pass.

A missed extra point by Robbie West, however, left Monessen with a 7-6 lead at the break.

The Eagles wasted little time in the second half, as Rush scored a one-yard touchdown with 6:20 left in the third quarter to give Avella the lead for good.

Terensky iced the Eagles’ victory with a 96-yard interception return for a touchdown with 1:46 left to play in the game.

Monessen committed 21 penalties for 171 yards.
