High school basketball roundup: Dunn, Trinity get it done against Mt. Lebo

Michael Dunn and Nelson Grayson went a combined 6-for-6 from the free-throw line in the final minute of play to seal a thrilling 55-50 victory for Trinity over Mt. Lebanon in a non-section boys basketball game Tuesday night at Hiller Hall.
Dunn scored 11 of his game-high 28 points in the second quarter, when Trinity outscored Mt. Lebanon, 21-10, to take a 28-22 lead at halftime. Trinity stretched that lead 43-33 after three quarters.
Jake Renke scored 23 points and Mike Pfueffer added 12 points for Mt. Lebanon (3-3), ranked 4th in Class 6A.
Dunn had 12 rebounds to go with his 28 points for the Hillers (4-2).
Chartiers-Houston 52, Bentworth 42: Three players scored in double figures to power Chartiers-Houston to a 52-42 victory over Bentworth in a non-section game.
Ahlijeh Vaden scored 15 points, Austin Arnold 11 and Jake Mele 10 for C-H (2-7). which led 26-22 at halftime.
Jerzey Timlin scored 17 points for Bentworth (1-4). Landon Urcho added 12 points.
Charleroi 49, Carmichaels 41: Zach Usher and Will Wagner combined for 38 points and Charleroi held host Carmichaels scoreless for nearly five minutes in the fourth quarter and the Cougars pulled away for a 49-41 victory in a non-section game.
The score was tied 38-38 with 5:28 remaining but Carmichaels (4-3) did not score again until a three-point play by Michael Stewart pulled the Mikes to within 45-41 with 31 seconds to play.
Usher and Wagner each sank two free throws down the stretch to seal the win for Charleroi (5-3). Usher finished with a game-high 20 points and Wagner was right behind with 18.
Christopher Barrish, with 16 points, was the lone Mikes player in double figures.
Burgettstown 60, Avella 48: Jackson LaRocka scored a career-high 23 points and Burgettstown pulled away in the second half to defeat visiting Avella 60-48 in a non-section contest.
Burgettstown (3-6) has won three of its last four. The Blue Devils led by only 29-28 at halftime but held Avella (1-5) to four points in the third quarter and opened a 40-32 advantage.
LaRocka scored 15 of his points in the second half, including 10 in the fourth quarter to keep the Blue Devils in the lead. Caleb Russell chipped in with 11 points.
Gabe Lis scored 20 points to pace Avella.
Jefferson-Morgan 66, West Greene 35: Taj Jacobs had a big game for Jefferson-Morgan, pouring in a game-high 28 points and powering the Rockets to a 66-35 victory over host West Greene in a non-section game.
Jacobs helped J-M (3-5) break away in the second half after leading 24-13 at halftime. The Rockets scored 21 points in both the third and fourth quarters.
Colton Fowler also contributed double figures for J-M as he tallied 12 points.
Ian Van Dyne was the leading scorer for West Greene (1-3) with nine points.
Belle Vernon 87, Yough 71: Belel Vernon got everybody into the act and rolled to an 87-71 win over host Yough in Class 4A Section 3.
Devin Whitlock again led the Leopards in scoring with a game-high 24 points to go with 10 rebounds. Whitlock had a lot of help from his teammates as freshman Quinton Martin also had a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds, and Daniel Gordon scored 14 points and collected 10 rebounds to give the Leopards three players with double-doubles. Joe Klanchar and Tyler Kovatch each added nine points.
The Leopards trailed 17-16 after one quarter before scoring 54 points over the next two periods.
Belle Vernon remains unbeaten in the section at 4-0. The Leps are 5-1 overall. Yough slipped to 1-4, 2-5.
Gamal Marbaille led three Cougars in double figures with 21 points.

Peters Township pulled out a 69-68 victory at Moon in non-section play. No game details were made available.

Fort Cherry 45, South Side Beaver 44: Senior Jill Panizza made a shot from the lane with 17 seconds remaining to cap a fourth-quarter comeback and give Fort Cherry a thrilling 45-44 victory over visiting South Side Beaver in non-section play.
Fort Cherry (4-4) trailed 29-20 at halftime but closed to within 39-35 entering the fourth quarter. The Rangers were down 44-40 when senior Bri Weinbrenner sank a clutch three-point shot that made it a one-point game. That set up Panizza’s go-ahead basket.
South Side Beaver (2-6) had a chance to win but missed a three-pointer as time expired. The Rams’ Mandy Fischer scored a game-high 15 points and Savannah Bailey had 13.
Senior Annika Rinehart led FC in scoring with nine points
West Greene 74, Laurel Highlands 20: West Greene scored 55 first-half points and rolled to a 72-20 victory over visiting Laurel Highlands in a non-section game.
The win was the fifth straight for West Greene (5-2). Laurel Highlands, which lost to Trinity by 71 points Monday night, fell to 1-8.
West Greene scored a whopping 38 points in the first quarter and led 55-17 at halftime. Laurel Highlands was held scoreless in the third quarter and managed only three points after halftime.
Elizabeth Brudnock and Anna Durbin led West Greene’s balanced attack with 14 points each. Jersey Wise tallied 10 points.
Aareanna Griffith had 11 points for the Mustangs.
