Trinity 10, Central Catholic 7
Brandon Rorhbaugh hit a two run home run to help Trinity take a 10-7 victory from Central Catholic in a non-section game.
Eric Cole drove in two runs and Zach McClenathan had a double to back the pitching of Brent Kurtz, who struck out four and walked four in 3.1 innings for Trinity (1-0, 1-0).
Eli Harpalani tripled and drove in two runs and Will Ray knocked in two for Central Catholic (0-1, 0-1).
Fort Cherry 13, Brentwood 3, 5 inn.
A four-run first and sixth-run fourth powered Fort Cherry to a 13-3 victory over Brentwood in five innings of a Section 4-AA game.
The Rangers (1-0, 1-0) rapped six doubles, one each from Lewis Serafin, Ryan Craig, Jake Tkach, Henry Karn, Mitch Cook and winning pitcher Lane Miller, who struck out seven in five innings.
Brentwood fell to 0-1 and 0-2.
Softball
Chartiers-Houston 7, Charleroi 3
Bella Hess went 4-for-4 with a triple and double and scored three times in Chartiers-Houston’s 7-3 victory over Charleroi in a non-section game.
Nicolette Koll singled, doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice for the Bucs (1-0). Maddie Smith doubled, had an RBI and scored twice.
The bottom six of the C-H lineup went 1-for-17 with two RBI and eight strikeouts.
Sophia Celashi went 2-for-3 with a double and run scored. McKenna DeUnger doubled and scored for Charleroi (0-1).
Belle Vernon 9, Waynesburg 3
Belle Vernon scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to hold off Waynesburg 9-3 in a non-section game.
Talia Ross struck out nine and walked two for BV (2-1). Ashley Joll had three hits and three RBI and Grace Sokol had two hits and two RBI. Tara Callaway had a single and two RBI.
Erin Fitch had two hits and an RBI for Waynesburg (0-1).
Yough 2, Canon-McMillan 1
In a game when all the runs were scored in the first inning, Yough downed Canon-McMillan 2-1 in a non-section game.
Kaylyn O’Dell homered and drove in booth runs for Yough (1-0).
Canon-McMillan scored a run in the first without benefit of a hit. The top four hitters in the C-M lineup went a combined 0-for-12.
Brooke Perri struck out nine and allowed only five runs for the Big Macs. Her counterpart, Emma Augustine, struck out seven and allowed one unearned run in seven innings.
