ORLANDO – Jujubee, the outstanding colt based at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows, has been named harness racing’s Trotter of the Year for 2021. Jujubee received 61 votes to Bella Bellini’s 47.

The results were announced Sunday night at the U.S. Harness Writers Association’s Dan Patch Awards banquet at Rosen Shingle Creek resort.

Jujubee was the top money-earning male trotter last year, with $948,791. He finished no worse than second in 17 of 18 races, winning 14. His victories included the Breeders Crown, Kentucky Futurity, Pennsylvania Sire Stakes final, and Phil Langley Memorial.

The colt won the Futurity in 1:49.3 and the Muscle Hill Trot in 1:49.4 to become the first 3-year-old male trotter with two sub-1:50 winning miles.

Jujubee is trained by Greg Wright Jr. and driven by Andrew McCarthy and Tony Hall. The son of Creatine out of La Cantera is owned by breeder Jon Erdner.

“This means a lot,” Wright said. “He never disappointed the whole year, and we’re not disappointed now. He’s been a great horse. There was a lot of good competition (for Trotter of the Year) but for what he did on the racetrack and how he went about it, I thought it was well deserved.

“We’re looking forward to his 4-year-old season and to keep the ball rolling. He’s doing awesome. He’s glad to be back training now and he’s anxious to hit the racetrack.”
