High school softball Charleroi wraps up second place in section

Charleroi scored five times in the top of the seventh to take a 7-6 victory from Carmichaels and clinch second place outright in Class 2A, Section 3.

Leena Henderson went 2-for-5 with a double, Riley Jones went 1-for-4 with a double and Ella Sypolt tripled. Emma Stefanick went 2-for-4 for Charleroi (10-2, 10-5).

Kendall Ellsworth went 2-for-4 for the Mikes (8-4, 10-5), who finished in third place in the section.

• Julia Barr doubled, singled twice and scored twice to help McGuffey take a 6-2 victory from Ringgold in a non-section game.

McKenna Crothers doubled and drove in two for the Highlanders (4-8). Roxanne Painter doubled, singled and scored and Caydence Jack doubled and scored.

For Ringgold (2-14), Emma Nolff and Olivia Vecchio each had two hits.

  • Waynesburg scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure a 6-3 victory over Chartiers-Houston in a non-section game

Paige Jones tripled, singled and knocked in two runs for the Raiders (11-4). Kylee Goodman went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run.

Nicolette Kloes and Meadow Ferri each had two hits for the Bucs (15-3) and Kloes scored twice.

  • Laney Lewis allowed one hit, walked one and struck out 11 as Southside Beaver knocked off Burgettstown, 2-0, in a non-section game.

Layla Sherman was the tough-luck losing pitcher for the Blue Devils (8-8), giving up three hits and two runs, one earned. KatieRose Smith had the only hit for Burgettstown.

South Side Beaver raised its record to 10-3.

  • Chartiers Valley scored six runs in the top of the eighth inning to take a 14-8 victory over South Fayette in a Class 5A, Section 4 game.

Chartiers Valley (9-3, 15-4) eliminated South Fayette (4-8, 9-9) from the playoffs.

Madison Crump and Taylor Walsh each drove in two runs in the top of the eighth for CV. Rylee Prosperi doubled and drove in three runs. Maria Gualazzi went 3-for-4, scoring three times, driving in two and homering. Marie Kinchington had two doubles and two RBI and Maria Celmo doubled, tripled and singled.

South Fayette had six doubles. Haley Nicholson had three hits, including a double. Maddie Cavenaugh hit two doubles and drove in two runs. Stephanie Binek scored twice, doubled and knocked in a run.

  • Belle Vernon scored two runs in the fourth inning to down Avonworth, 2-1, in a non-section game.

Mia Zubovic had a double and two RBI for BV (14-4). Alivia Lantzy doubled for Avonworth (11-7). Talia Ross struck out six and walked one to pick up the win.

  • Mapletown needed four innings to drop Turkeyfoot, 15-0, in a non-section game.

Macee Cree got the shutout and Hannah Hartley hit three doubles and knocked in four runs. Taylor Dusenberry added a double for the Maples (11-6).

  • Alyvia Montgomery tripled home Kaitlynn Signorini from second base with the winning run in a 5-4 victory by Beth-Center over Jefferson-Morgan in an eight-inning game.

Gianna Petersen struck out eight and walked none. Sonya Petersen, Lexie Snyder and Signorini each hit a double for B-C (4-8).

Kayla Larkin homered and drove in three runs and Jillian Katruska went 3-for-4 for the Rockets.
