High school baseball: Big Macs rally past Baldwin
Canon-McMillan rallied from a three-run deficit for a 10-6 victory at Baldwin Thursday in Class 6A Section 2 play.
The first-place Big Macs (9-3, 11-4) have won four straight since an 11-1 setback to second-place Hempfield (7-5) on April 19.
Mason Fixx’s sacrifice fly in the sixth turned out to be the winning RBI. Austyn Winkleblech and Will Taczak doubled for Canon-McMillan.
Roman Mollenauer struck out five and walked four in earning the win.
• Chartiers-Houston scored eight runs in the third inning en route to a 13-2 non-section victory over Brentwood.
The Buccaneers’ Nico Filosi doubled twice. Teammates Dominic Cumer, Jake Mele and Paul Williamson had extra-base hits.
Anthony Romano had six strikeouts and walked three in earning the win.
The Bucs improved to 13-2.
• Ty Groves and Nick Willard combined for a one-hit shutout in Waynesburg’s 10-0 win over Jefferson-Morgan in non-section play.
Groves allowed one hit in five innings with eight strikeouts and two walks. Willard pitched a perfect sixth.
Derek Turcheck tripled for the Raiders (6-5). Teammate Austin Surber doubled.
• Beth-Center scored six runs in the eighth inning to top Mapletown, 13-7, in non-section play.
Ethan Varesko had eight strikeouts and walked two in earning the win in relief. He also had three doubles. Tyson Dingle doubled for the Bulldogs (4-10).
A.J. Vanata hit a two-run homer for the Maples (1-10).
