HOUSTON — Chartiers-Houston had a 16-point lead after the first quarter, but Carlynton battled back for a 32-24 victory on Friday in Class A Black Hills Conference play at Chartiers-Houston.

The Buccaneers (0-4, 0-7) opened the scoring on Aaron Walsh’s 35-yard touchdown run and held a 9-0 lead after a snap went over the head of the Carlynton punter and into end zone.

Zeke Watkins’ 2-yard run extended the home team’s advantage to 16-0.

Ryan Lewis pulled in a 9-yard touchdown reception from Devonte Dean, and Dean ran in a touchdown from 11 yards out to cut the deficit to 16-13 at halftime.

Jacob Stiffler blocked a punt and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown and a 20-16 lead for the visitors in the third quarter after Mateo Carrasco made the second of two PATs. Dean’s 13-yard run extended Carlynton’s advantage to 26-16 before Walsh scored on a two-yard run to cut the deficit to 26-22 in the fourth quarter.

Lewis returned the ensuing kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown for a 32-22 lead.

Chartiers-Houston converted on a second safety, but the deficit was too large to overcome.
