No letdown for Trinity in conference win

UNIONTOWN — Trinity didn’t have a letdown following last week’s stunning victory over Thomas Jefferson in earning a 38-7 victory over Laurel Highlands Friday night in Class 4A Big Seven Conference play.

Trinity’s victory and Connellsville’s loss to Latrobe clinched a playoff berth for the Hillers.

Trinity (3-2, 5-3) scored on all six of its possessions in the first half for a 38-0 lead at halftime.

Dante DeRubbo pulled in the first of two touchdown receptions from Jonah Williamson at 8:23 of the first quarter and Andy Palm connected on the first of five extra points.

Palm kicked a 22-yard field goal at 5:21 of the first quarter for a 10-0 advantage heading into the second quarter.

Andrew Durig caught a 39-yard touchdown pass from Williamson at 10:57 of the second quarter before Williamson found the end zone on an 11-yard run. DeRubbo caught his second touchdown pass (26 yards) and Nico Mauro’s one-yard run extended Trinity’s lead to 38-0 at halftime.

Williamson was 14 of 20 for 182 yards and gained 63 yards on eight carries. Teammate Luke Lacock caught four passes for 65 yards. Durig gained 64 yards on six attempts.

The Hillers forced two turnovers in the first half that resulted in points.

Antwan Black Jr. scored on a three-yard run with 1:45 remaining to help the Mustangs (0-4, 1-7) avoid the shutout.
