West Greene gets key win at Beth-Center
FREDERICKTOWN — Johnny Lampe had three short touchdown runs and Colin Brady returned the opening kickoff for a score, powering West Greene to a key 37-12 victory over Beth-Center in the Class A Tri-County South Conference Friday night.
The win keeps West Greene (4-1, 6-2) tied for second place in the conference with Jefferson-Morgan. The Pioneers and Rockets play next Friday in Rogersville.
Beth-Center slipped to 3-2 in the conference and 3-5 overall.
Brady’s 84-yard kickoff return and a three-yard TD run by lampe gave West Greene a 15-0 lead after one quarter.
The Pioneers made it 22-0 in the second quarter when lampe scored from two yards.
Beth-Center closed to within 22-6 in the third quarter when quarterback Jonah Sussan ran three yards for a touchdown. West Greene scored on the first play of the fourth quarter when quarterback Lane Allison hooked up with Parker Burns on a 24-yard TD pass.
Ethan Varesko, who rushed for 438 yards in a win over Bentworth last week, scored on a 14-yard midway through the fourth quarter to pull B-C to within 30-12. Varesko had 76 yards on 18 carries.
Lampe capped the scoring with his third touchdown, a four-yard jaunt.
The Pioneers’ Billy Whitlatch rushed for 151 yards on 16 carries.
