California secures conference title

CALIFORNIA — California’s rushing attack and stout defense was key in the Trojans’ 62-6 victory over Beth-Center on Friday night in Class A Tri-County South Conference play.

With the win, California has assured itself of the conference crown. The Trojans will host a playoff game in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs.

The Trojans (6-0, 8-1) had three reached 100 yards in rushing with Jake Layhue and Lee Qualk gaining 118 yards apiece. Spencer Petrucci had 107 yards. California rushed for 432 yards.

Petrucci scored three touchdowns, Layhue and Qualk each scored a pair of TDs. Fred Sherman and Landon Abercrombie also found the end zone.

Ethan Varekso scored on a 73-yard run for the Bulldogs (3-3, 3-6).
