Bad start, second quarter prove costly to Ringgold
MONONGAHELA — Jayden McBride returned the opening kickoff 82 yards into the end zone and Connellsville carried that momentum in a 47-12 victory over Ringgold in Class 4A Big Seven Conference play Friday night at Joe Monatan Stadium.
The Falcons (1-1, 3-2) scored two more touchdowns in the first quarter for a 19-0 lead before the Rams’ Daryl Tolliver pulled in a 20-yard touchdown reception from Will Toprani at 4:40 of the first quarter to cut the deficit to 19-6.
Connellsville outscored the Ringgold, 28-0, in the second quarter, as Capone Mickens and McBride caught touchdown passes from Anthony Piasecki, and Grayden Gillott took a lateral that was put on the turf by Ringgold (0-2, 0-5) into the end zone from seven yards out. Bruce Giles’ 51-yard run capped the second-quarter scoring as the Falcons held a 47-6 advantage at halftime.
Tolliver caught a 37-yard touchdown reception with 33 seconds remaining in the third.
