Vulcans put it together in 2nd half to down Edinboro

California’s offense came alive in the second half and the Vulcans earned a 31-10 victory over Edinboro in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action on Saturday at Edinboro.

The Vulcans (2-1, 1-0) trailed 3-0 after the first quarter and clung to a 7-3 lead at halftime before outscoring the Fighting Scots, 24-7, in the second half.

Eric McKan III scored on a 1-yard-run and Anthony Beitko made the second of four PATs for a 14-3 advantage at 9:17 of the third quarter. McKan scored his second touchdown on a 4-yard run with 1:43 left in the third for a 21-3 lead.

Omari Hopkins pulled in a 2-yard touchdown pass from Davis Black to extend California’s advantage to 28-3 with 11:17 left in the fourth quarter. Beitko kicked a 29-yard field goal with 5:22 remaining before Bo Swartz scored on a 4-yard run with two seconds remaining to make the score look more respectable for Edinboro (1-3, 0-1).

The Fighting Scots had an early lead on Reed Martin’s 28-yard field goal at 8:29 of the first quarter.

The Vulcans got on the scoreboard in the second quarter after Eric Willis III pulled in a 5-yard touchdown reception from Alex Arledge at 8:02.

Hopkins caught six passes for 121 yards and Willis gained 83 yards on six receptions. Black was 14-of-25 for 219 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

Bobby Boyd Jr. led California in rushing with 55 yards on 10 carries.

The Vulcans host Clarion (1-3, 0-1) next Saturday in PSAC play at noon.
