Red Wings hold off Penguins, 4-3

DETROIT – Michael Rasmussen scored a tiebreaking goal in the third period and the Detroit Red Wings edged the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3 Tuesday night in NHL preseason action.

Rasmussen’s goal broke a 3-3 tie and came with 13:47 remaining in the game. The Red Wings were able to protect the one-goal lead the rest of the way.

Pittsburgh scored first on a goal by Radim Zohorna in the opening period. The period ended tied at 1-1.

Detroit took a 2-1 lead when Dylan Larkin scored on a 5-on-3 power play in the second period. Pittsburgh tied it on a even-strength goal by Valtteri Puustinen, but the Red Wings regained the lead a little more than a minute later.

Pittsburgh did tie it at 3-3 before the end of the second period when Sam Poulin stuffed in a shot.
