Marissa Kalsey not only cleared all three attempts in the pole vault during Friday evening’s qualifying round in the United States track & field trials at historic Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon in Eugene, but she flew over the bar on her third vault with a personal best of 4.50 meters (14-9 feet).

The Waynesburg graduate was one of 12 vaulters who qualified for the finals, which will be held Sunday at Hayward Field with the competition scheduled to begin at 6:15 p.m.

Kalsey was one of 24 vaulters to start, and she had no issues in clearing 4.20 (13-9½ feet) and 4.35 (14-03½) before finishing at 4.50. The former Westminster star didn’t need to attempt another height because the field for the finals had been set.

The top three vaulters who meet the Olympic-qualifying-standard height of 4.73 meters or 15-6 1/4 feet will made the trip to Paris at the end of July for the 2024 Summer Olympics as part of Team USA. Vaulters can also qualify on world rankings if they fail to hit the standard, but Kalsey best opportunity is to finish in the top three and hit the standard.
