Geneva stuns W&J, ends Presidents’ streak at 14

The Washington & Jefferson women’s basketball team already had a pair of blowout wins – by 36 and 20 points – over Geneva en route to winning the Presidents’ Athletic Conference regular season title.
So not many people gave Geneva a chance in the semifinal game between the Presidents and Golden Tornadoes in the PAC tournament Thursday night at Salvitti Family Gymnasium.
Geneva, however, flipped the script on W&J and used a sizzling second half to pull off a stunning 89-75 win over the top-seeded Presidents.
Geneva (14-13) will play Saturday for the tournament championship against Chatham.
Taylor Milroy scored 24 points, Mia San Nicolas added 23 and Geneva overcame a nine-point halftime deficit by shooting 53 percent in the second half. The Golden Tornadoes made five three-point field goals in the second half.
The loss leaves W&J with a 23-3 record. The Presidents had their winning streak snapped at 14 games.
W&J led 41-32 at halftime as Bryn Bezjak scored all 12 of her points in the opening 20 minutes.
Geneva scored the first seven points of the third quarter and used a 15-5 run to take a 49-48 lead. The third quarter ended tied at 58-58.
A driving layup by Geneva’s Cynthia Milroy gave the Golden Tornadoes the lead at 60-58 and they never trailed again.
Mackenzie Barricklow came off the bench and scored 16 points for Geneva and Cynthia Milroy finished with 10.
W&J was held to 36 percent shooting and was outrebounded 49-39.
Adalynn Cherry led the Presidents in scoring with 20 points and Stellanie Loutsion added 18. Jaden Wan had 11.
