Waynesburg’s offense took off in Saturday’s 99-81 triumph at Thiel in Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) women’s basketball play.

The Yellow Jackets (2-8, 3-11) scored 37 points in the second quarter for a 58-34 lead. Waynesburg had a 25-17 edge in the third before the Tomcats had a 30-16 advantage in the fourth.

The Yellow Jackets’ Kalista Friday had a team-high 16 points. Teammate Mia Henkins added 15. Marley Wolf (14) and Madisen Dayton (10) were in double digits.

Thiel’s Lexy Wagner had a game-high 19 points.

California 74, Slippery Rock 53

The Vulcans were never in danger as they jumped out to a 33-point halftime lead and cruised to a 74-53 PSAC-West victory at Slippery Rock.

California was led in scoring by Dejah Terrell, who had a career-high 30 points. The Vulcans’ Sierra Bermudez had 14 and Nina Shaw dropped 11.

California improved to 6-3 in conference action and 11-4 overall.

Regan Atkins had a game-high 20 points for the Rock. Trinity graduate Kaylin Venick had 7 points for Slippery Rock.

Washington & Jefferson 59, Allegheny 55

The Presidents trailed by two at halftime, but rallied for a 59-55 triumph over the Gators in Meadville in Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) play.

Jaden Wan came off the bench and scored a team-high 17 points for W&J. Teammate Adalynn Cherry had 13.

Allegheny’s Emily Lauer had a game-high 18 points. Sarah Santicola was in double digits with 13 for the home team.

Men’s basketball

Washington & Jefferson 109, Allegheny 86

Alex Acosta scored 34 points in the Presidents’ 109-86 win over the Gators in Meadville in Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) play.

W&J trailed by two at the halftime, but outscored the Gators by 25 in the second half.

South Fayette graduate Brandon Jakiela came off the bench to score 20 points for W&J. Matthew Carte (15) and Nick Gearhart (11) were in double figures for the Presidents.

Ryan Lang had 21 points for Allegheny. Teammates James Sitter (18), Isaiah Portis (15) and Luke Barker (13) were also in double digits.

Slippery Rock 89, California 72

The Vulcans’ shooting was off in a 89-72 setback to PSAC-West Conference foe Slippery Rock at the Convocation Center.

California’s KJ McClurg had a team-high 34 points, which was his fifth game of the season with 30 points. Bryson Lucas added 16 for the home team.

Slippery’s Rock’s Ike Herster led the game in scoring with 36 points, which were a career high.

Thiel 72, Waynesburg 64

The Yellow Jackets trailed by just two at the half, but the Tomcats had a six-point advantage in the second for a 72-64 win in Presidents’ Athletic Conference play.

Waynesburg was led in scoring by Scott Bilovus, who had 15 points. Antone Baker had 13 and Jansen Knotts added 10 for the visitors.

The Yellow Jackets fell to 4-6 in conference play and 7-8 overall.
