K.J. McClurg scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and 17th-ranked California ran its winning streak to five games with an 88-73 victory over Edinboro in a PSAC West men’s basketball game Wednesday night at the Convocation Center.

McClurg scored 14 of his points in the first half when california (12-2, 18-2) forged a 48-40 advantage. The Vulcans steadily pulled away in the second half.

It was the fourth game for the Vulcans in eight days.

Donald Whitehead Jr. scored 17 points, Zyan Collins had 15 and Keith Palek tossed in 14 to give Cal four players in double figures.

Wash & Jeff 86, Franciscan 70

Nathan Plotner led four Washington & Jefferson players in double figures with a game-high 22 points – in only 17 minutes of playing time – and the Presidents defeated host Franciscan 86-70 Wednesday night in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference men’s basketball game.

Plotner had a double-double that included 11 rebounds. He scored eight of his points in the first half, when W&J (5-10, 6-14) built a 43-35 lead. The Presidents pulled away in the second half.

Brandon Jakiela scored 16 points for W&J, Alex Acosta had 12 and Matt Seidl 11.

Franciscan received 19 points apiece from Josh Zimmerman and Sawyer Butler.

Women’s results

Edinboro 57, California 51

Hayley Sims scored a game-high 25 points and made a go-ahead three-point shot with 1:27 remaining, sparking Edinboro to a 57-51 win over host California in a PSAC West game.

The loss is the second straight for Cal (9-5, 14-6). Edinboro (9-5, 11-8) moved into a tie with the Vulcans in the standings.

Edinboro led by four points midway through the fourth quarter but California battled back and led 51-50. Sims’ three-pointer, however, pushed Edinboro in front for good at 53-51. Sims and Ashton Boggs (15 points) each added two free throws down the stretch.

Cal didn’t make a field goal in the game’s final 2:42.

Dejah Terrell led the Vuclans with 22 points and 10 rebounds. She had 17 of her points in the first half. Allycia Harris scored 11 points.

Wash & Jeff 72, Franciscan 48

Stellanie Loutsion had game highs of 17 points and six assists, leading Washington & Jefferson to a 72-48 win over host Franciscan in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference game.

It was the ninth consecutive win for W&J (14-1, 18-2), which sits in first place in the PAC.

Loustion made three of W&J’s eight three-point field goals. The Presidents had 10 players score, including Sarah Berardelli, who had 10 points and seven rebounds.

W&J held Franciscan to four points in the first quarter and led 37-24 at halftime. The Presidents pulled away with a 22-10 scoring margin in the third quarter.

Geneva 77, Waynesburg 52

Geneva pulled away with a 22-5 run in the first half and went on to a 77-52 win over visiting Waynesburg in a PAC game.

Kayla Howard led Waynesburg (3-12, 4-16) in scoring with nine points.
