Cal women fall in NCAA tourney

ERIE — California had a one-point halftime lead, but Lock Haven took over in the second half to defeat the Vulcans 74-60 in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Atlantic Regional on Friday at Hagerty Family Events Center.

The Vulcans (23-9) were hindered by a tough day, including going 0-for-11 from 3-point range.

The Bald Eagles (29-3) had a 14-13 lead after the first quarter, but California used a 16-14 edge in the second for a 29-28 halftime advantage.

Lock Haven took control in the third quarter, as it outscored the Vulcans, 23-15, for a 51-44 lead after three quarters. The Bald Eagles doubled up their advantage after a 23-16 advantage in the final period.

Lock Haven’s Jenadia Jordan scored a game-high 25 points on five field goals (two 3-pointers) and was 13-for-14 at the foul line. Teammate Alana Robinson put in 20 points on five field goals. She made all 10 of her free throws. The Bald Eagles were 29-for-34 at the foul line.

Rhlyn Rouse came off the bench to chip in 10 points for Lock Haven.

California was led in scoring by Dejah Terrell’s 18 points on six field goals and shooting 6-for-8 from the foul line. She added 13 rebounds for a double-double.

Nina Shaw had 14 points on five field goals and was 4-for-6 at the line. Allycia Harris and Sierra Bermudez each put in 9 points for the Vulcans.

California had its largest lead of five as late as 3:40 left in the third quarter, but Lock Haven pulled away in the fourth.

The Bald Eagles advance to Saturday’s semifinals against No. 1 seed Gannon (33-2) at 5 p.m.

If they would pull off the upset, the regional final is scheduled for Tuesday at the highest remaining seed left in the tournament. The time has yet to be determined.
