Nease scores 1,000th in Burgettstown’s win

Burgettstown senior forward Kaitlyn Nease flipped in 26 points, including her 1,000th career point, powering Burgettstown to a 47-25 victory over visiting Apollo-Ridge in a non-section girls basketball game Monday night.

Nease had a big night all around as she finished with a double-double that included 12 rebounds.

Needing 26 points to reach the 1,000-point mark Nease reached the total in the fourth quarter, when the Blue Devils outscored the visitors 20-9. Burgettstown led 11-10 after one quarter and then held Apollo-Ridge scoreless in the second quarter for a 24-10 halftime advantage.

The win improved Burgettstown’s record to 2-1. Apollo-Ridge (2-1) lost for the first time.

Sophia Yard scored 17 points for Apollo-Ridge.

Waynesburg 72, Carmichaels 25

Kaley Rohanna poured in 28 points, sparking Waynesburg to a 72-25 thumping of Carmichaels in non-section action.

Rohanna made four of Waynesburg’s seven three-point field goals as the Raiders improved their record to 3-0.

Waynesburg had four players score in double figures. Emma Kindervater finished with 15 points, and Addison Blair and Avery Davis had 10 each. The Raiders led 26-10 after one quarter and 47-17 at halftime.

Alayna Simon paced Carmichaels (0-3) with nine points.

Boys results

Trinity 56, Washington 46

Junior forward Jacob Dunkle scored a career-high 33 points to power Trinity to a 56-46 win over Washington in the consolation game of the Canon-McMillan tournament on Saturday.

Dunkle had 10 field goals and converted 13 free throws. His big game helped the Hillers improve to 1-1 on the season.

De’ondre Daugherty led Wash High with 14 points and Isaiah Woods followed with nine.

In other games

Canon-McMillan was a 53-23 winner over visiting Canon-McMillan in a non-section girls game. Beth-Center won 45-25 at Mapletown. No game details were made available by press time.
