Chartiers-Houston holds off Jefferson-Morgan

Chartiers-Houston built a double-digit halftime lead and then held on for a 44-39 win at Jefferson-Morgan in a non-section game Thursday night.
The Bucs (6-1) led 27-16 at halftime but Jefferson-Morgan was able to make it close in the second half after outscoring C-H by a 15-9 margin in the third quarter.
Avery Molek poured in a game-high 25 points to keep Chartiers-Houston ahead.
John Woodward had 12 points to pace Jefferson-Morgan (5-3) and Dayten Marion scored 11.
Raines (Fla.) 56, Canon-McMillan 54
Raines (Fla.) forged a nine-point halftime advantage, then held off a second-half comeback to edge Canon-McMillan 56-54 in a game Thursday at the KSA Pre-Holiday Tournament in Orlando, Fla.
Raines led 28-19 at halftime before Canon-McMillan (4-3), led by Eamon O’Donoghue, who finished with 25 points, charged back and closed to within 39-36 after three quarters. The Big Macs held an 18-17 scoring edge in the fourth quarter.
Roman Koenemun scored 13 points for Canon-McMillan.
Monessen 65, Westinghouse 46
Lorenzo Gardner scored 33 points, powering Monessen to a 65-46 victory over visiting Westinghouse of the Pittsburgh City League.
Monessen (4-1) led by only 30-27 at halftime but took control by outscoring the Bulldogs 17-9 in the third quarter.
It was the season opener for Westinghouse.
Frazier 87, California 73
Frazier’s Dailan McManus scored 26 points, including six three-point field goals, and Frazier defeated slow-starting California, 87-73.
Frazier raced out to a 29-6 lead at the end of the first quarter, which had California playing catch-up ball the rest of the night.
McManus led four Commodores in double figures.
Vinny Manzella paced the Trojans with 19 points and Noah Neil tossed in 17. Caden Monticelli had 12 points and Jacob Ziolecki had 11.
Burgettstown 83, Avella 69
Burgettstown came out of the gate strong and held off a late Avella charge in a 83-69 non-section victory Thursday night at Avella.
The Blue Devils (2-0, 7-0) had a 24-12 lead after the first quarter and increased their advantage to 43-20 at halftime. The Eagles (0-0, 4-3) outscored Burgettstown, 23-17, in the third and 26-23 in the fourth.
The Blue Devils’ James Leuice led the game in scoring with 27 points. Teammate Carson Tkalcevic had 25 and Parker Rommas added 11.
Avella was led in scoring by Westley Burchianti, who put in 25 points. Bryce Wright had 17 and Nate Cilia added 12.
Trinity 42, Fort Cherry 35
Trinity outscored Fort Cherry by eight in the second half to earn a non-section win at Fort Cherry.
The Hillers’ Jacob Dunkle scored 20 points. The Rangers were led in scoring by Shane Cornali, who had 11.
Trinity was 15 of 27 at the foul line while Fort Cherry was 6 for 15.
Charleroi 58, Waynesburg 41
Charleroi earned its first Class 3A Section 4 victory this season in a 58-41 triumph at Charleroi.
The Cougars (1-1, 2-5) led by three at halftime, but outscored the Raiders (0-2, 2-6) by 13 in the second half.
Charleroi’s Jackson Keranko shared high-scoring honors with Waynesburg’s Cole Headlee, as both put in 17 points.
The Cougars’ Bryce Large added 12 points.
Girls results
Waynesburg 50, Albert Gallatin 39
Waynesburg improved its record to 7-0 with a 50-39 win over visiting Albert Gallatin in a non-section contest.
Waynesburg held the Colonials to only 10 points in the first half and was in control throughout the game. Avery Davis scored 10 points for the Raiders.
Seton LaSalle 47, Burgettstown 36
Mallory Daly scored 23 points, sparking Seton LaSalle to a 47-36 road win in a non-section contest against Burgettstown.
Addie Loergan chipped in with 16 points for the Rebels (5-2), who have won three in a row.
Burgettstown (4-3) had a two-game winning streak snapped. The Blue Devils received 17 points and 15 rebounds from Kaitlyn Nease but they were held to 15 second-half points.
Fort Cherry 53, Carmichaels 20
Olivia Kemp fired in 16 points and Fort Cherry won its Class 2A Se4ction 2 opener Wednesday night, 53-20, over host Carmichaels.
The Rangers (1-0, 4-2) led 16-2 after one quarter and were in command the rest of the way. Raney Staub added 11 points.
Carmichaels (0-2, 1-6) received 10 points from Megan Voithofer.
Canon-McMillan 46, South Park 32
Lauren Borella led three Canon-McMillan players in double figures with 14 points the Big Macs’ defense shut down previously unbeaten South Park for a 46-32 win in a non-section contest Wednesday.
Canon-McMillan (6-2) held South Park to nine points in the first half as the Big Macs held a 10-point lead at the intermission. C-M closed the game with a 10-5 scoring edge in the fourth quarter.
Nadia Davis contributed 13 points and Madison Carr had 10 for the Big Macs.
Monroe Polls led South Park (4-1) with seven points.
Monessen 43, Brashear 25
Monessen held a slim 20-18 halftime lead, but outscored host Brashear by 16 points in the second half for a 43-25 victory Wednesday.
MyAsia Majors scored nine points for Monessen (3-1). Ra’Niya Morris finished with a game-high 12 points for Brashear (3-3).
Trinity 52, Bethel Park 48
Trinity jumped out to an early lead and held off a late charge by Bethel Park in a 52-48 non-section girls victory on Thursday night at Bethel Park High School.
The Hillers (0-0, 5-1) led 17-5 after the first quarter and 28-15 at the half. Trinity extended its advantage to 39-25 after three quarter. The Black Hawks (0-2, 2-6) had a 23-13 edge in the fourth.
Ruby Morgan scored 12 points for the Hillers and teammate Maddy Roberts had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Trinity’s Macie Justice added 9 points.
In other games
Peters Township improved its record to 7-0 with a 72-40 home-court win over Fox Chapel in a non-section game. No game details were reported by press time.
