High school softball: Seitz homers twice in 7th as Trinity rallies for win

Trinity saved its best for last.
Trinity erupted for nine runs in the top of the seventh inning to wipe away a deficit and defeat host Thomas Jefferson 14-6 in a Class 5A Section 4 game Wednesday.
Remmie Seitz both started and capped the big inning for the Hillers. Seitz hit a leadoff home run in the seventh that tied the score at 6-6. The Hillers pushed ahead on an RBI single by Finley Hohn, and Hanna Suhoski followed with a three-run homer that gave Trinity a 10-6 lead.
The Hillers (3-1, 7-2) kept hitting and brought Seitz back to the plate for the second time in the inning. This time, Seitz smacked a grand slam, her second homer of the inning, that made the score 14-6.
Seitz finished the game 2-for-2 with five RBI. Suhoski and Emily Hasson each drove in three runs. Hasson also had a home run. Ally Krenzelak and Alexa Zawacki both doubled.
Hohn was the winning pitcher.
McGuffey 5, Seton LaSalle 0
Makenna Crothers fired a two-hit shutout as McGuffey blanked visiting Seton LaSalle 5-0 in Class 3A Section 4.
McGuffey gave Crothers all the offense she would need early in the game as the Highlanders led 3-0 after two innings.
Faith Ealy had two hits, including a double, and scored two runs. Julia Barr belted a triple.
Crothers struck out six and walked two as the Highlanders improved to 3-1 in the section and 6-2 overall.
Monessen 9, Bishop Canevin 6
N Monessen erased a late deficit by scoring four times in both the fifth and sixth innings to beat Bishop Canevin 9-6 in Class A Section 3.
The Greyhounds (3-1, 3-2), who swept the two-game series, trailed 4-1 entering the bottom of the fifth.
Winning pitcher Joey Hurst doubled and drove in three runs.
Burgettstown 19, Fort Cherry 1
Burgettstown scored 14 runs in the second inning and went on to a 19-1 four-inning thumping of Fort Cherry in Class 2A Section 3.
The Blue Devils (3-3, 4-6) had only one extra-base hit, a triple by Layla Sherman. Brooklyn Robinson drove in three runs.
Winning pitcher Madedy Guiddy struck out six, did not walk a batter and allowed only two hits.
Mapletown 3, California 2
Alexis Perry scored from first base in the sixth inning on Marley Seward’s single and an ensuing error in the outfield, breaking a tie and giving Mapletown a 3-2 home-field win over California in Class A Section 2.
Winning pitcher Devan Clark struck out eight and walked only one as the Maples improved to 3-1 in section and 3-3 overall.
Losing pitcher Kera Urick went 3-for-3 to lead California (0-6, 0-8) at the plate.
Norwin 8, Canon-McMillan 5
Norwin scored three times in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull out an 8-5 win over visiting Canon-McMillan in Class 6A Section 1.
Norwin (3-5, 4-6) led 4-0 in the first inning before Canon-Mac (3-3, 3-3) battled back to take a 5-4 in the fifth. Kiersten Williams and Skylah Steban hit solo home runs in the Big Macs’ fourth inning. Olivia Ford and Samantha Merkle doubled.
West Greene 15, Avella 0
West Greene raised its overall record to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in Class A Section 2 with a 15-0 win in four innings at home over Avella.
Winning pitcher Payton Gilbert had a big game, firing a one-hitter to go with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate that included five RBI and a grand slam in the second inning.
Marissa Tharp doubled and scored three runs, Ali Goodwin drove in 3 runs and Madelyn Roberts doubled and scored three times.
Belle Vernon 16, Ringgold 5
Belle Vernon came out swinging against host Ringgold, generating 17 hits that led to a 16-5 victory in five innings in a Class 4A Section 2 contest.
Taylor Beech homered and drove in four, Mia Zubovic had three hits including a home run, and Maddie Grisnik tripled and drove in three to lead the Leopards (4-2, 9-2). Katie Sokol had three singles and Mailey Hayes doubled.
Carrie Kunkel had a double for Ringgold (1-4, 1-6).
