Colton Temple drove in four runs and Fort Cherry scored in every inning as the host Rangers knocked Carmichaels from the ranks of the unbeaten, 15-5, in five innings Thursday in Class A Section 1.
Ben Demascal hit a solo home run and Luke Sweder added two doubles as Fort Cherry (4-1, 6-1) unleashed a 15-hit attack. Winning pitcher Ryan Huey and Matt Sieg also doubled for the Rangers. Huey and Dylan Lueck each scored three runs.
The teams are scheduled to play again today at Carmichaels (4-1, 6-1).
Washington 12, Monessen 0
Washington sophomore Caleb Patton fired a no-hitter as the Prexies rolled to a 12-0 victory at Monessen in a non-section game.
Patton struck out 14, walked two and needed only 97 pitches to complete the seven-inning no-hitter.
He received plenty of offensive support as Wash High (5-4) had 12 hits, including eight that went for extra bases. Joe Wilson hit a solo home run and a double, Var Chandler had a double and triple to go with four RBI and Patton helped his cause with a triple.
Ian Callan, Isaac Charnik and Kyle Bainer also had doubles.
Waynesburg 11, Brownsville 0
Waynesburg remained unbeaten with an 11-0 five-inning win at Brownsville in Class 3A Section 4.
The Raiders, who scored five runs in the top of the first inning and rode Austin Surber’s four-hit shutout, improve to 5-0 in the section and 6-0 overall. Surber struck out five and walked one.
Alex VanSickle, Derek Turcheck and Trenton Zupper doubled for Waynesburg. Nick Willard and Kory Taylor each drove in three runs.
Ringgold 5, Belle Vernon 4
Ringgold erased a one-run deficit by scoring three times in the top of the seventh inning, then held off a late charge by Belle Vernon to edge the Leopards, 5-4, in Class 4A Section 2.
After Ringgold (1-4, 3-6) tied the score with a run on a passed ball in the top of the seventh, Alex Kolano laced a two-run single to put the Rams up 5-3.
Belle Vernon (4-1, 7-2), which had its seven-game winning streak snapped, closed to within 5-4 on a two-out RBI double by Adam LaCarte, but the Leopards stranded a pair of baserunners in scoring position.
Jimmy Nash was the winning pitcher in relief.
Hempfield 3, Canon-McMillan 2
Anthony Demarco’s two-out single in the bottom of the eighth inning drove in the winning run as Hempfield outlasted Canon-McMillan 3-2 in Class 6A Section 2.
Hempfield (8-1, 12-1) won two of the three games in the series. C-M is 4-5, 4-7.
Bentworth 4, Frazier 3
Bentworth picked up its first win of the season, holding off visiting Frazier 4-3 in Class 2A Section 1.
