High school softball: Another no-no for Bentworth’s Gonglik

Another day, another no-hitter for Bentworth’s Sydney Gonglik.
The fantastic freshman fired a three-inning no-hitter Thursday as Bentworth blanked Fort Cherry 15-0 in a three-inning Class 2A Section 3 game Thursday.
It came one day after Gonglik twirled a seven-inning perfect game with 20 strikeouts in the Bearcats’ 8-0 victory over Washington.
Against Fort Cherry, Gonglik recorded eight of the nine outs via strikeout as the Bearcats improved to 5-0 in section and 7-2 overall. Kyleigh Glaze belted a home run, and Gonglik and Willow Eckels doubled.
Against Washington, Gonglik had two triple and a double, and Eckels, Zoie McDonald and Hailey Tartar doubled.
Charleroi 12, Beth-Center 0
Sofia Celaschi fired a five-inning no-hitter as Charleroi defeated host Beth-Center 12-0 in a five-inning Class 2A Section 3 game.
Charleroi (4-2, 7-2) scored in only two innings but one was an 11-run third.
Celaschi struck out 11 and walked two. Riley Jones had a triple and drove in three runs for the Cougars.
Belle Vernon 9, Albert Gallatin 8
Katie Sokol hit a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning, giving Belle Vernon a 9-8 come-from-behind victory over Albert Gallatin in Class 4A Section 2.
Belle Vernon (5-2, 10-2) fell behind 6-0 in the first inning but battled back and trailed 8-6 entering the seventh.
Gracie Sokol homered and Lauren VanDivner had three RBI for the Leopards. Maddie Grisnik was the winning pitcher with 6⅓ innings of relief.
Connellsville 11, Trinity 10
Iris Burd’s RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Connellsville a wild 11-10 win over Trinity in Class 5A Section 4.
The win moves Connellsville (4-1, 8-3) into sole possession of first place in the section. Trinity is close behind at 3-2, 7-3.
Trinity led 6-2 before Connellsville scored seven times in the fifth inning to take a 9-6 advantage. The Hillers scored four runs in the top of the seventh to regain the lead at 10-9.
Alex Zawacki, Hanna Suhoksi and Remmie Seitz each homered for Trinity. Seitz’s homer, her third in two days, was a two-run shot and came in the seventh, giving Trinity the 10-9 lead.
Kirra Davis had a home run and double for Connellsville.
Waynesburg 10, Keystone Oaks 0
Gina Tedrow twirled another stellar game and Waynesburg unleashed a 14-hit attack to beat Keystone Oaks 10-0 in six innings in Class 3A Section 4.
Tedrow allowed only two hits and one walk. She struck out 13.
Ellie Makel led the offense for Waynesburg (2-2, 4-6) by going 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Bre Kerr also had two doubles and Mikaylynn Good had three RBI. Tedrow and Aidan Snider doubled.
North Allegheny 14, Canon-McMillan 3
Canon-McMillan had 12 hits but could turn only three of those into runs as the Big Macs lost to North Allegheny 14-3 in six innings in Class 6A Section 1.
Anne Melle homered, doubled and threw two innings of relief for NA (4-2, 4-2).
Olivia Ford doubled for Canon-Mac (3-4, 3-4).
West Greene 5, Mapletown 4
West Greene scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to beat visiting Mapletown 5-4 in Class A Section 2.
Marissa Tharp went 3-for-4 with the go-ahead RBI in the sixth. Winning pitcher Payton Gilbert struck out nine, including the 200th of her career.
