Chartiers-Houston sweeps season series over West Greene

Chartiers-Houston swept the season series over West Greene in a 14-4 victory in Class A Section 2 play at Chartiers-Houston.

The Bucs (7-0, 9-1) exploded for six runs in the sixth inning. Zaylee Fonner hit a three-run home run that invoked the mercy rule.

Meadow Ferri earned the pitching victory after striking out 13 and walking one. Ella Richey hit a two-run homer in the third and a solo blast in the sixth. Lauren Rush hit a solo homer for Chartiers-Houston. Ferri tripled and knocked in two runs.

Kendra Tharp doubled and had an RBI for the Pioneers (6-3, 7-5).

Jefferson-Morgan 11, Mapletown 1

Jefferson-Morgan scored four runs in the fourth inning and six in the fifth for an 11-1 victory over Mapletown in Class A Section 2.

The Rockets’ Emilee Bazzoli hit a home run and teammate Kayla Larkin doubled.

Kallyn Novak pitched the final two innings to earn the win. She had five strikeouts and didn’t walk a batter.

The Maples’ Devan Clark struck out four and walked three.

Beth-Center 14, Avella 5

Beth-Center had 20 hits in a 14-5 non-section victory over Avella at Beth-Center.

The Bulldogs (3-4, 4-4) scored seven runs in the third, four in the fourth and three in the sixth to take control.

The Eagles (0-9, 3-11) scored three in the fourth and two in the fifth.

Beth-Center’s Kendall Welsh had five strikeouts and walked three in earning the win. She also tripled.

The Bulldogs had six doubles, including two by Bella Stepp.

Allison Lynch, Bella Lloyd, Kiera Lamp and Ella Sims also doubled. Lamp added a triple.

South Fayette 6, Mohawk 2

Emma Earley had 10 strikeouts in South Fayette’s 6-2 win over Mohawk in non-section play.

Earley yielded two runs on four hits over seven innings.

Maddie Cavenaugh had an RBI single in the second for the Lions (6-2, 9-2). Teammate Cam Valentino had an RBI double. Cavenaugh hit a two-run home run to right field in the sixth.

Hempfield 5, Canon-McMillan 0

Julia Varhola struck out 13 and didn’t walk a batter in Hempfield’s 5-0 victory over Canon-McMillan in Class 6A Section 1.

Allison Cervola, Lauren Howard and Margaret Howard hit home runs for the Spartans.

Upper St. Clair 8, Peters Township 3

Upper St. Clair scored three runs in the fifth inning and held on for an 8-3 victory over Peters Township in Class 5A Section 4 play.

Skylar Lemansky hit a home run for the Indians.
