Waynesburg survives scare in 3-2 win over West Greene

Trenton Zupper drew a walk with the bases loaded for the winning run in the top of the seventh inning, and Waynesburg survived a scare against West Greene in a 3-2 non-section victory on Thursday at Waynesburg University.
The Raiders were designated as the away team, even though the game was played in Waynesburg. The Pioneers (5-3, 8-4) had a 2-1 lead after four, but the Raiders (8-0, 10-0) rallied to remain undefeated.
Grant Pack’s sacrifice fly in the fifth tied the game at 2-2.
Alex VanSickle had an RBI single in the third for a 1-0 Waynesburg lead before West Greene took the lead in the fourth on RBI singles by Johnny Lampe and Dylan Hughes.
Austin Surber struck out 12 and didn’t walk a batter over six innings. He earned a no-decision, as the game was tied at 2-2 heading into the seventh.
VanSickle allowed a hit, but struck out the side in pitching a scoreless seventh for the win.
Lane Allison took the loss, but allowed only three runs (two earned) on five hits over seven. He had four strikeouts and walked two.
Canon-McMillan 11, Baldwin 1
Canon-McMillan took care of business in defeating Baldwin 11-1 and sweeping the season series with the Highlanders in Class 6A Section 2 play.
The Big Macs (7-5, 7-7) were led offensively by Ben Peterson, Cam Russell, Teddy Burke and Brayden Radue, who had two RBI apiece. Peterson had two doubles and Russell was 2-for-3. Burke and Radue were 1-for-1.
Michael Stafford had four strikeouts in three innings of work. The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Burgettstown 19, Chartiers-Houston 10
Burgettstown scored 12 runs in the seventh inning to turn a two-run deficit into a 19-10 victory over Chartiers-Houston in Class 2A Section 1 play.
The Blue Devils (5-1, 5-3) avenged an earlier loss to the Bucs (6-2, 6-6).
Brodie Kuzior, Eric Kovach, James Leuice, Jacob McNabb, Riley Kennedy, Samuel Elich and William Stevenson had one of seven doubles for Burgettstown. Kuzior hit a two-run home run in the seventh and had three RBI. Elich, Kennedy and McNabb had three RBI apiece.
Keegan Kosek had two doubles and five RBI for Chartiers-Houston. Teammate Justus Buckingham also doubled.for Chartiers-Houston.
Beth-Center 6, Charleroi 1
Beth-Center built up a four-run cushion after three innings and held on for a 6-1 win over Charleroi in Class 2A Section 1.
Jackson Nopwaskey and Johan Sussan doubled for the Bulldogs (3-5, 7-7).
Nopwaskey earning the pitching victory after allowing one run on five hits over 6.2 innings. She struck out five and walked two.
Kaden Woods doubled for the Cougars (6-3, 8-4).
Elizabeth Forward 2, Ringgold 1
AJ Greese’s walk-off double plated Charlie Nigut in Elizabeth Forward’s 3-2 victory over Ringgold in non-section play.
JB Crovak also doubled for the Warriors, who tied the game in the bottom of the ninth on a sacrifice fly. The Rams took a 1-0 lead in the top of the ninth on Eddie Frizzell’s RBI single.
Bishop Canevin 15, Monessen 0
Bishop Canevin earned a 15-0 victory in three innings over Monessen in Class A Section 3.
The Crusaders scored five in the first inning, four in the second and sixth in the third.
California 14, Bentworth 7
California built up a six-run lead after the second inning en route to a 14-7 non-section victory over Bentworth.
The Trojans’ Kaden and Kris Weston had three hits apiece, as did Chase Cicchito and Logan Hartley, who added doubles. Parker Gillen had four RBI for California.
The Bearcats’ Sam Wade had three RBI.
Laurel Highlands 13, McGuffey 2
Laurel Highlands used a six-run third inning and a five-run fifth to defeat McGuffey 13-2 in non-section play.
The Mustangs’ Noah Lions allowed two runs (none earned) on two hits over five innings for the win. He had seven strikeouts and walked five.
Yough 3, Belle Vernon 2
Yough scored two runs in the sixth and hung on for a 3-2 victory over Belle Vernon in non-section play.
Jake Gedekoh doubled for the Leopards.
