High school baseball: Trinity edges Baldwin, 1-0

J.R. Rieg and two relievers combined on a four-hit shutout as Trinity defeated visiting Baldwin 1-0 in a fast-paced non-section game Friday.

Rieg allowed two hits and one walk over six shutout innings. He struck out 10.

Cole Carl got the final three outs to preserve the win.

Trinity scored the game’s only run in the fourth inning when Matthew Robaugh and Kaden Hathaway singled to start the inning. Robaugh scored on a sacrifice fly by Gibby Havanis.

Baldwin’s Aiden Robinson hit a one-out triple in the fifth inning but was stranded after a strikeout and fly out.

Isaiah Bradick and Brian Martos combined on a one-hit shutout as Avella won at Western Beaver, 3-0.

Bradick struck out 10 and walked one over five innings for the win. Martos earned a save with two hitless innings. He struck out five.

Avella scored one run in the second inning and two in the fifth. The Eagles’ Bryce Wright, Chas Rush and Cam Ullom each had a double. Wright and Hayden Gatewood had two hits apiece.

Waynesburg did all of its scoring in the first three innings and defeated visiting Bentworth, 5-1.

Winning pitcher C.J. Corwin scattered five hits over 6⅓ innings. He struck out eight and walked one.

Grant Pack had two hits and three RBI hitting out of the No. 9 spot in the lineup.

Bentworth’s Gavin Linton-Rush had two hits, including a double.

Jones (Ill.) broke open a pitchers’ duel by scoring four times in the top of the fifth inning and held off Chartiers-Houston 6-3 in Orlando, Fla.

Jones led 1-0 before scoring four runs in the top of the fifth. C-H answered with three in the bottom of the inning.

Aaron Walsh had two hits for C-H and Nathan Christy drove in a pair of runs.

Luke Camden allowed only two earned runs and struck out eight over five innings.

Brock Bayles and Brayden Ellsworth combined on a two-hitter as Jefferson-Morgan defeated visiting Beth-Center, 3-1.

Bayles allowed one hit and one unearned run over five innings, striking out nine to get the win.

The Rockets (2-0) did all of their scoring in the third inning, after B-C had taken a 1-0 lead. John Woodward had an RBI double to tie the score. Woodward gave J-M the lead when he scored on Deakyn Dehoet’s single, and a wild pitch made it 3-1.

J-M’s Drew Adams went 3-for-4.

Nick Rattigan’s two-run single capped Jeannette’s three-run bottom of the fifth inning and the Jayhawks went on to a 6-5 win over visiting Washington.

Wash High (1-1) led 4-3 entering the fifth inning.

The Prexies’ Var Chandler went 4-for-4 and scored two runs. Iain Callan and Tyler Bainer each had a double. Callan drove in three runs.
