High school baseball: Ringgold outlasts Trinity in 8 innings

Alex Kolando’s RBI single scored Andrew Sprinkle from second base and capped Ringgold’s two-run bottom of the eighth inning that gave the Rams an 8-7 win over Trinity in a non-section game Wednesday.
Trinity (1-1) forced extra innings by scoring in the top of the seventh when Jonah Williamson stole third base and raced home on a throwing error. In the eighth, the Hillers took a 7-6 lead when Matthew Robaugh hit a one-out solo home run.
In the bottom of the eighth, Ringgold’s Gavin Angotti led off with a double and Sprinkle’s sacrifice bunt was misplayed for an error, allowing the tying run to score. Sprinkle stole second base and scored on Kolando’s walk-off hit.
Williamson went 3-for-5 with a double, and Trinity’s Gibby Havanis hit two doubles.
Kolano went 4-for-5 with three RBI for Ringgold (2-1), which won its second straight game by an 8-7 score.
Frazier 4, Beth-Center 2: Three Frazier pitchers combined on a no-hitter as the Commodores defeated visiting Beth-Center 4-2 in a Class 2A Section 1 game.
Beth-Center (1-1, 2-2) took advantage of three walks, an error and a hit batsman to score two runs over the first two innings.
Brock Alekson pitched the first 5⅓ innings for Frazier (1-1, 1-1), striking out seven and walking four. He was followed on the mound by Dailan McManus and Aidan Hardy.
Frazier moved ahead with a run in the fourth that made it 3-2.
McGuffey 9, Southmoreland 5: Mason Piatt drove in three runs and McGuffey stayed unbeaten in Class 3A Section 4 play with a 9-5 victory at Southmoreland.
The Highlanders (2-0, 2-1) swept the two-game series.
McGuffey was sparked by a five-run second inning.
Piatt was one four Highlanders to hit a double. Reno Presto, Cameron Dames and Samuel Stout had the other two-baggers.
Three McGuffey pitchers combined on a seven-hitter. Presto was the winner with three innings of relief. He struck out six.
Southmoreland is 0-2 in section and 0-4 overall.
California 13, Mapeltown 3: California scored six runs in the top of the first inning and went on to a 13-3 win over host Mapletown in Class A Section 1.
The Trojans (2-0, 2-2) swept the two-game series.
Winning pitcher Logan Hartley threw a six-hitter and was backed by three RBI from Niko Georgagis.
