High school baseball: Sieg’s homer sparks Fort Cherry win

Matt Sieg hit a three-run, tiebreaking homer to center field in the fourth inning, sparking Fort Cherry to a 7-5 win over visiting Chartiers-Houston in a non-section game Thursday.
Sieg’s homer broke a 4-4 tie and made a winner of reliever Blake Sweder, who struck out five over three innings.
The Rangers’ Ryan Huey hit a home run to lead off the bottom of the first inning.
Chartiers-Houston (0-3) scored one run in the seventh and had runners on second and third with one out, but Sieg got a strikeout and fly out to end the game.
Avella 2, West Greene 1
Isaiah Bradick and Brian Martos combined on a three-hitter as Avella remained undefeated with a 2-1 win at West Greene in Class A Section 1.
Bradick threw five shutout innings and Martos allowed one unearned run over two frames.
Avella (2-0, 3-0), which swept the two-game series, took a 1-0 lead in the third and added an key insurance run in the seventh on an RBI double by Martos.
West Greene (0-2 in section) scored on a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the bottom of the seventh but a strikeout ended the game.
Losing pitcher Darren Knight scattered six hits and gave up only one earned run.
Carmichaels 10, Jefferson-Morgan 1
Leadoff hitter Dom Colarusso went 3-for-4 and scored four times, winning pitcher Nathan Beringo tossed six strong innings and Carmichaels won at Jefferson-Morgan 10-1 in Class A Section 1.
Carmichaels (2-0, 3-0) swept the two-game series.
The Mikes scored seven runs over the first two innings and that was enough support for Beringo, who allowed two hits, one walk and one run. He struck out six.
Colarusso, Aydan Adamson and Colin Andrews each had a double for the Mikes. Mason Lapana drove in three runs.
Deakyn DeHoet and Jaymison Robinson doubled for J-M (0-2, 2-2).
Washington 12, Bentworth 9
Washington scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a tie and beat Bentworth, 12-9, in Class 2A Section 1.
Wash High (2-0, 3-1) swept the two-game series.
The Prexies broke the tie in the sixth when Ian Callan scored on a bases-loaded wild pitch. Isaac Charnik followed with an RBI single and Var Chandler drew a bases-loaded walk to force in the final run.
William Callan drove in three runs for the Prexies. Ian Callan had a triple.
Lucas Burt drove in two runs for Bentworth (0-2, 0-3) and John Scott doubled.
Waynesburg 10, Beth-Center 0
Waynesburg scored eight runs in the bottom of the second inning and went on to a 10-0 victory over Beth-Center in a five-inning non-section game.
Three Waynesburg pitchers combined on a one-hitter with eight strikeouts. Trenton Zupper pitched the first three innings.
Austin Surber had a triple, and Derek Turcheck and Ethan Kiger doubled for the Raiders (3-0).
Belle Vernon 6, California 4
Belle Vernon held off a late charge by visiting California to beat the Trojans 6-4 in a non-section game.
Belle Vernon (3-0) did all of its scoring in the first three innings. Connor Bergman and Cole Matusik each drove in two runs.
Frazier 6, Mapletown 2
Frazier scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to beat Mapletown 6-2 in a non-section game.
The Commodores (2-1) on three hits, two walks and a passed ball.
A.J. Vanata hit two doubles and allowed one hit over four innings for Mapletown (1-4). He struck out six.
Elizabeth Forward 7, Peters Township 6, 9 innings
Elizabeth Forward scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to outlast Peters Township 7-6 in a non-section game,
PT (2-3) had scored three times in the top of the ninth to take a 6-3 lead. EF (3-0) scored its four runs in the ninth on two hits, three walks, a hit batsman, a sacrifice fly and an error. The winning run scored on a bases-loaded walk.
Michael Alspaugh had a triple, and Reese Clark and Will Somers doubled for the Indians. Jackson Stocker drove in two runs.
Sean Morrow threw three shutout innings of relief.
Pine-Richland 9, Canon-McMillan 4
Canon-McMillan had a four-run lead heading into the bottom of the second before Pine-Richland scored two in its half, two more in the third and took the lead in the fourth for a 9-4 victory in non-section play at Pine-Richland.
The Rams (4-1) scored their five runs on three hits in the fourth. Peyton Ford’s double scored the game-winning run for the home team.
Will Taczak and Sam Meredith had two hits apiece for the Big Macs (0-2). Massimo Falconi, Nico Patragas, Ben Peterson and Cam Russell had an RBI for Canon-McMillan.
Mount Pleasant 11, Ringgold 5
Ringgold out hit Mt. Pleasant by three, but the Vikings recorded an 11-5 non-section victory at Mt. Pleasant’s baseball complex.
Mt. Pleasant (2-3) had a 4-0 lead after two innings, but the Rams (2-2) came back with three in the top of the third to cut the deficit to one.
The Vikings got two runs back in the bottom of the frame for a 6-3 advantage and added three more in the fifth and two in the sixth while Ringgold could only muster one-run apiece in the fifth and sixth innings.
Alex Kolano paced the Rams with three hits. Spencer Behrendt and Tyler Fisher knocked in four of Ringgold’s five runs.
