Central Catholic rallies past Canon-McMillan

Central Catholic scored three runs in the sixth inning to rally for a 6-4 win over Canon-McMillan in Class 6A Section 2 play.

Both teams finished section play at 7-8, but the Vikings earned a three-game series sweep.

The Big Macs’ Sam Meredith was 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI. Teammate Ben Peterson hit a home run.

Canon-McMillan’s Alex Shank was 2-for-3 with a double.

South Park 6, Ringgold 0

Ringgold couldn’t get its offense going in a loss to South Park in non-section play.

The Rams’ Eddie Frizzell was 2-for-3 and teammate Andrew Sprinkle stole two bases. Sprinkle added a base hit for Ringgold.

Anthony Koziel took the loss for the Rams, but he had six strikeouts and walked two.

Bentworth 16, Monessen 7

Gavin-Linton Rush had three hits in Bentworth’s victory over Monessen in non-section play.

Linton-Rush tripled in the sixth, doubled in the second and singled in the third.

Ben Hayes had an RBI single in the first inning for the Bearcats. Teammates John Scott and Vinny Logan scored after Scott walked and Logan was hit-by-pitch.

Craig McDonald knocked in a run with a single in the sixth for Bentworth. Zeek Malanosky hit a two-run double and Linton-Rush’s triple knocked one run home.

McGuffey 4, Avella 2

Reno Presto had an RBI single and pitched six strong innings in McGuffey’s win over Avella in non-section play.

Presto had two hits and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits over six. He had five strikeouts and walked two. Cameron Dames didn’t allow a run on one hit in earning the save.

Ryan Keith had two hits for the Highlanders. Evan Seibert and Lincoln Johnson drove in one run apiece for McGuffey.

Bryce Wright tripled for the Eagles and Brian Martos drove in one run.

Trinity 5, Waynesburg 4

Cam Schofield’s walk-off single led Trinity to a victory over Waynesburg in non-section play.

The Raiders scored the game’s first run before the Hillers added three in the bottom of the first inning for a 3-1 lead.

Waynesburg scored three in the top of the fourth for a 4-3 advantage before Trinity tied the game in the bottom of the inning.

Our Lady of Sacred Heart 10, Fort Cherry 1

Our Lady of Sacred Heart had a seven-run lead after three innings and Fort Cherry couldn’t get going in a setback in non-section play.

The Rangers’ Blake Sweder had a double and Shane Cornali had a hit, walk and drove in one run.
