High school softball: Bentworth wins 14th in a row

Bentworth scored 11 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and defeated West Greene 12-0 in a non-section game Thursday between playoff teams from different classifications.

Winning pitcher Sydney Gonglike fired a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts. She did not walk a batter.

Gonglik helped her cause by going 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and three runs. Nora Lindley hit a three-run homer for Bentworth (15-2). Kyla O’Dell and Lyleigh Glaze doubled. The Bearcats have won 14 in a row.

One of the two hits for West Greene (11-7) was a double by Marissa Tharp.

Jefferson-Morgan 4, Brownsville 3

Jefferson-Morgan rode a two-hitter by Emilee Bazzoli to a 4-3 victory over Brownsville in a non-section game.

Bazzoli, who struck out eight, had the game’s only extra-base hit, a double.
