Leuice scores 35 as Burgettstown wins

James Leuice poured in a career-high 35 points to spark Burgettstown to a 72-57 victory over visiting Western Beaver in a non-section boys basketball game Tuesday night.
Leuice combined with Zack Schrockman to score 57 of the Blue Devils’ points. Schrockman tossed in 22 as Burgettstown improved its record to 2-0.
Burgettstown raced out to a 37-27 halftime and added a 10-point edge in the fourth quarter.
Nathan Schwartz scored 23 points to lead Western Beaver (0-3).
Peters Township 70, Keystone Oaks 37:
Dylan Donovan and Cam Mills combined for 37 points, sparking Peters Township to an easy win over host Keystone Oaks, 70-37, in a non-section play.
The Indians (2-1) almost scored more points in one quarter (the second) than winless KO (0-3) tallied in the entire game. PT led 19-12 after one quarter, then erupted for 34 points in the second period. Donovan had 14 points in the quarter and Mills contributed eight.
Jack Dunbar finished with 12 points for the Indians.
Eranbd Jakup led KO with 11 points.
Jefferson-Morgan 42, Bentworth 28:
Dayten Marion scored 15 points and Jefferson-Morgan won a battle of defense with visiting Bentworth, edging the bearcats 42-28 in non-section play.
It was a low-scoring game throughout as J-M (2-1) led 17-11 at halftime. The Rockets outscored Bentworth in both the third and fourth quarters.
Houston Guesman flipped in 11 points for J-M. Ross Skerbetz led Bentworth (1-1) in scoring with 11.
Belle Vernon 64, Steel Valley 53:
Zion Moore tossed in a game-high 27 points to power Belle Vernon to a 64-53 victory over Steel Valley.
The win evens Belle Vernon’s record at 1-1.
The Leopards led 37-23 at halftime but Steel Valley (0-3) closed to within 46-40 after three quarters. Belle Vernon won the game with an 18-13 edge in the final period.
Tommy Davis and Trevor Kovatch each scored 15 points for the Leopards. Davis had six blocked shots.
Nyhjir Norris led three Steel Valley players in double figures with 16 points.
West Greene 55, Avella 52:
West Greene’s Parker Burns and Matt Wassil had double-doubles in the Pioneers’ 55-52 victory over Avella in non-section play at West Greene.
West Greene’s Lane Allison scored a game-high 20 points. Burns had 14 points and 12 rebounds and Wassil had 13 points and 14 rebounds.
The Pioneers (1-0) had a 29-24 halftime lead and extended their advantage to 42-34 after three quarters. The Eagles (1-2) had an 18-13 edge in the fourth period.
Westley Burchianti led Avella in scoring with 17 points. Teammate Bryce Wright added 13.
Beth-Center 74, California 64:
Brody Tharp tallied 40 points in Beth-Center’s 74-64 non-section victory on Tuesday at California.
Tharp made 7 three-pointers as the Bulldogs improved to 1-2.
Beth-Center’s Santino Revi and Johan Sussan put in 12 points apiece.
The Bulldogs had a 15-14 edge after the first quarter and a 33-28 halftime advantage. Beth-Center outscored the Trojans, 20-11, in the third quarter for a 14-point lead heading into the fourth. California had a 25-21 edge in the fourth.

Charleroi 55, South Allegheny 46:
Bella Carroto poured in a game-high 23 points and unbeaten Charleroi rode a big first quarter to a 55-46 victory over host South Allegheny in a non-section game.
Charleroi (3-0) forged a 16-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and had South Allegheny (2-1) playing catchup the rest of the way. The Cougars maintained a 14-point advantage at halftime before the Gladiators closed to within 40-32 after three quarters.
Camryn Musser scored 15 points for Charleroi and Riley Jones contributed 10.
Gabi Jackson paced SA with 15 points.
Fort Cherry 46, Chartiers-Houston 43:
Olivia Kemp scored 12 points and Fort Cherry held off a late comeback by Chartiers-Houston to edge the Bucs 46-43 in non-section action.
Fort Cherry (3-0) led 32-19 at halftime and 41-30 after three quarters. The outcome, however, wasn’t decided until Chartiers-Houston (1-2) missed a long desperation three-pointer in the final seconds.
Brooke Cornali scored 11 points for the Rangers.
Mia Mitrik paced the Bucs with a game-high 16 points. Allison Wingard followed with 13.
Elizabeth Forward 43, Trinity 40:
Elizabeth Forward rallied from a five-point deficit after three quarters to edge Trinity, 43-30, on Tuesday in non-section play at Elizabeth Forward.
The Hillers (1-1) outscored the Warriors, 11-6, in the third quarter to take a 31-26 lead into the fourth period after both scored 20 in the first half. A 17-9 advantage for Elizabeth Forward (2-1) pushed the home team to victory.
Trinity’s Sam Horne scored 9 points, and teammates Maddy Roberts and Riley Corrins had 8 points apiece.
The Warriors’ Chloe Zombak was the game’s leading scorer with 17 points.
