High school basketball: Vaccarello, Peters Township finish strong

Mickey Vaccarello scored eight of his team-high 18 points in the fourth quarter as Peters Township rallied to beat host South Fayette 73-66 in a non-section boys basketball game Tuesday.
PT (5-2) trailed 46-44 after three quarters but scored 29 points in the pivotal final period.
Jack Dunbar scored 14 points and Dylan Donovan 10 for the Indians.
Michael Plasko had a game-high 25 points for South Fayette (3-3). Gino Satira, Gavin Orosz and Stefano Vezio each had 11.
Belle Vernon 65, McKeesport 55
Zion Moore poured in a game-high 29 points and Belle Vernon defeated host McKeesport 65-55 in non-section play.
Alozno Wade had 13 points and Tommy Davis contributed 10 for the Leopards (3-1).
Lamont Perkins led McKeesport (1-3) with 21 points.
Mount Pleasant 50, McGuffey 36
Mount Pleasant built a 10-point lead at the end of one quarter and went on to a 50-36 win over McGuffey in Class 3A Section 4.
It was the first win for the Vikings (1-0, 1-4). McGuffey is 0-1, 4-2.
Aydan Cunningham scored 12 points for the Highlanders and Grayson Wallace had 10. Chase McCloy’s 14 led the Vikings.
Propel Braddock 44, West Greene 38
Micah Kirkland scored 14 points and Propel Braddock held off visiting West Greene 44-38 in a non-section game.
Propel (3-3) led 26-16 at halftime.
Parker Burns led West Greene (3-3) in scoring with 10 points.
Burgettstown 67, Carmichaels 43
Burgettstown remained undefeated with a 67-43 Class 2A Section 4 victory at Carmichaels.
Burgettstown (2-0, 6-0) had a 15-9 lead after the opening quarter and a 28-18 halftime advantage. The Blue Devils extended their lead in the second half in outscoring the Mikes (0-1, 3-4) by 14 points.
Burgettstown had three players in double figures with James Leuice’s 19 points leading the way. Zach Schrockman had 17 and Caron Tkalcevic 14.
Carmichaels’ Aydan Adamson had a game-high 21 points.
West Allegheny 50, Trinity 33
West Allegheny held visiting Trinity in single digits for three of the four quarters in a 50-33 non-section victory.
The Indians (7-0) had a 10-5 lead after the first quarter and pushed their advantage to 26-13 at halftime. West Allegheny outscored the Hillers, 13-12, in the third quarter, and 11-8 in the fourth period.
The Indians’ Brandon Bell was the game’s leading scorer with 16 points and teammate Ty Blatz had 11.
Dante DeRubbo led Trinity (2-4) in scoring with 9 points.
Fort Cherry 80, Bentworth 46
Fort Cherry scored 52 points in the first half and cruised to an 80-46 victory over Bentworth in Class 2A Section 4.
The win moves the Rangers to 1-0 in the section and 3-1 overall. FC led 52-22 at halftime.
Shane Cornali led the Rangers’ attack with 22 points. Derek Errett followed with 19 and Evan Pond had 11.
Ben Hays scored a game-high 24 points for Bentworth (0-2, 1-5).
Girls results
Bentworth 53, Avella 43
Amber Sallee and Kayla O’Dell combined for 35 points, sparking Bentworth to a 53-43 home-court win over Avella in non-section play.
The Bearcats led by only 28-26 at halftime but used a big third quarter to open a 44-30 lead.
Sallee scored a team-high 18 points and was 8-for-8 at the free-throw line, helping keep the Bearcats (2-6) in the lead. O’Dell had 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Aubrie Logan had 14 rebounds.
Ava Frank scored a game-high 21 points for Avella (1-6).
South Fayette 70, Ambridge 17
Defending WPIAL Class 5A champions South Fayette rolled to a 70-17 home-court win over Ambridge in a non-section action.
The Lions (5-2) led 32-3 after one quarter.
Ainsley Burns was the only SF player to score in double figures. She had 10 points.
California 57, Jefferson-Morgan 17
California scored 46 points in the first half and rolled to a 57-17 win over Jefferson-Morgan in a non-section game.
Rakiyah Porter scored 28 points for the Trojans (4-4) and is now averaging 22.6 per game.
South Fayette 70, Ambridge 17
Defending WPIAL Class 5A champions South Fayette rolled to a 70-17 home-court win over Ambridge in a non-section action.
The Lions (5-2) led 32-3 after one quarter.

Washington 52, Brownsville 49
Washington rallied came back in the fourth quarter to beat visiting Brownsville 52-49 in a non-section game Monday.
Brownsville (6-2) held a 34-31 lead after three quarters but Washington (2-3) fought back with a 21-15 edge in the fourth.
Olivia Woods had a big game for the Prexies, scoring a game-high 28 points.
Brownsville’s Skyler Gates had a double-double of 16 points and 15 rebounds. Ava Clark led the Falcons with 17 points.
California 53, Carmichaels 36
California dominated in the middle quarters and cruised to a 53-36 victory over host Carmichaels in a Class 2A Section 4 game Monday.
California (1-1, 3-4) led 9-6 after one quarter and then outscored Carmichaels (0-1, 1-5) by a 30-17 margin over the next two quarters.
Hayley Gibson led the California attack with a game-high 21 points. Rakiyah Porter hit double figures, tossing in 13.
Megan Voithofer paced Carmichaels with 15 points and Ali Jacobs scored 13.
