High school basketball: C-M goes south, gets win; McGuffey girls remain undefeated

Evan Morris and Christian Scheider each scored 12 points, lifting the Canon-McMillan boys basketball team to a 38-31 win over Ross Sheppard of Edmonton, Alberta, Wednesday afternoon in the KSA Pre-Holiday Tournament being held in Orlando, Fla.

The Big Macs (4-2) led 15-5 after one quarter but Ross Sheppard closed to within 25-19 at halftime. Canon-McMillan held their opponents to only 11 points in the second half.

Brownsville 63, Waynesburg 50

Brownsville built an 8-point lead after the first quarter and went on to a 63-50 win over Waynesburg in Class 3A Section 4 on Tuesday.

Brownsville led 33-21 at halftime and 50-35 after three quarters.

Trenton Wible paced the Falcons with a game-high 19 points. Harlan Davis scored 16 points and Jeremy Praster added 10.

Dane Woods led the Raiders with 18 points. Alex Eck had a double-double with 13 rebounds and 10 points. Jackson Dean added 12 points.

Ringgold 47, Greensburg Salem 46

Szyair Dungee’s putback as time expired gave Ringgold a 47-46 victory over Greensburg Salem 47-46 Tuesday.

Ringgold trailed by nine points in the fourth quarter. Daryl Tolliver (12) and Brayden Lomax (10) scored in double digits for the Rams.

Braden Leatherman scored a game-high 14 points for Greensburg Salem.

In other games

Washington defeated Charleroi 79-51 in a Class 3A Section 4 game Tuesday, No game details were reported.

Girls results

McGuffey 65, Rochester 55

Taylor Schumacher poured in a game-high 30 points and McGuffey remained undefeated with a 65-55 victory over Rochester in a non-section game Thursday on the Highlanders’ home court.

McGuffey (5-0) led 19-12 after one quarter and 35-28 at halftime, but the Highlanders had too much Schumacher for Rochester. The Highlanders moved out to a 59-43 advantage by outscoring the Rams 24-15 in the pivotal third quarter.

Libby Mallah also hit double figures for McGuffey, scoring 13 points.

Kamryn Newman was tops for Rochester (4-3) with 17 points. Aleaya Mercier scored 14.

In other games

The Ellis School was a 32-29 winner at West Greene in a non-section game. No game details were reported by press time.
