High school basketball: Nease sets Burgettstown single-game scoring record

Senior forward Kaitlyn Nease set the Burgettstown single-game scoring record with 45 points as the Blue Devils rolled over visiting Sto-Rox 71-26 in a Class 2A Section 2 girls basketball game Wednesday.

Burgettstown (8-1, 12-9) inched closer to the section title. The Blue Devils play at Carlynton tonight and a win will clinch at least a share of the section championship.

Nease, a 1,000-point career scorer, broke the school’s single-game scoring record of 42 points that was set by Jamie O’Donnell in 1988.

Nease’s big game helped Burgettstown forge a 52-12 halftime lead. The Blue Devils scored 25 points in the second quarter.

Bentworth 62, Mapletown 41

Amber Sallee and Ava Massucci combined for 39 points and nine three-point field goals, powering Bentworth to a 62-41 victory over visiting Mapletown in a non-section game.

Sallee scored 23 points and made five three-point baskets. Massucci followed with 16 points and four from behind the stripe. Aubrie Logan chipped in with 11 points for the Bearcats (5-17), who got off to a fast start and led 22-9 after one quarter.

Isabella Garnek scored a game-high 26 points for Mapletown (6-13).

Hundred (W.Va.) 40, Jefferson-Morgan 36

Hundred (W.Va.) built a six-point halftime lead and held on for a 40-36 victory over host Jefferson-Morgan.

Kayla Larkin scored a team-high 17 points for Jefferson-Morgan (3-18).

Boys results

West Greene 49, Carmichaels 33

Lane Allison scored 27 points, sparking West Greene to a 49-33 victory over Carmichaels in a non-section game played on the Mikes’ home court.

West Greene (13-7) held Carmichaels (4-16) to one point in the first quarter and built a double-digit lead. The Pioneers led 27-14 at halftime.

Allison, a junior who is closing in on 1,00 career points, made four three-point field goals in the game. Teammate Parker Burns tossed in 10 points.

Ayden Adamson led the Mikes with 15 points and Dom Colarusso had 10.
