High school basketball: Burgettstown, FC stay on collision course

Zack Schrockman and James Leuice combined for 50 points and Burgettstown dominated the second half for a 57-47 come-from-behind win at Frazier in Class 2A Section 4 Friday night.
The win keeps Burgettstown atop the section at 5-0 (12-3 overall), a half-game ahead of Fort Cherry. The Blue Devils and Rangers meet Tuesday in McDonald.
Burgettstown trailed 33-21 at halftime but outscored Frazier 36-14 in the second half.
Schrockman poured in a game-high 30 points and Leuice followed with 20. The duo scored all but seven of Burgettstown’s points.
Frazier (3-2, 8-6) was led by Dailan McManus’ 19 points. Brennan Stewart had 15.
Fort Cherry 68, Carmichaels 35
The Rangers remain undefeated in Class 2A Section 4 play after a 68-35 victory at Carmichaels.
The Rangers (4-0, 8-4) had a 24-4 lead after the first quarter, and extended their advantage to 40-17 at halftime. The visitors outscored the home team 15-7 in the third and 13-11 in the fourth.
Fort Cherry was led in scoring by Derek Errett and Blake Sweder, who had 13 points apiece.
Teammate Shane Cornali recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Mikes’ Aydan Adamson was the game’s leading scorer with 17 points.
West Greene 45, Jefferson-Morgan 39
Lane Allison scored a game-high 15 points and West Greene stormed back in the fourth quarter to win at Jefferson-Morgan 45-39 in Class A Section 2.
West Greene (2-1, 7-5) trailed 18-17 at halftime and 28-24 after three quarters but outscored the Rockets 21-11 in the pivotal fourth quarter.
Parker Burns scored 11 points for the Pioneers. J-M (2-2, 9-5) was led by Max Ivanusic’s 11 points.
Upper St. Clair 65, Canon-McMillan 49
The Panthers jumped out early and cruised to a Class 6A Section 2 triumph over the Big Macs at Upper St. Clair.
The Panthers’ Tyler Robbins scored a game-high 19 points. Teammate Brett Meinert added 12.
Roman Koenemund led Canon-McMillan in scoring with 12.
Avella 61, Carlynton 60
The Eagles rallied from a seven-point deficit with two minutes remaining to stun Carlynton, 61-60, in Class A Section 1 play.
Avella (3-1, 8-7) was led in scoring by Westley Burchianti, who had 24 points. Teammates Bryce Wright (13) and Nate Cilia (11) were also in double figures.
Carlynton’s Jaydin McKnight scored a game-high 27 points.
California 60, Geibel Catholic 52
The Trojans outscored the Gators by 10 in the fourth quarter to rally from a two-point deficit after three periods for a 60-52 triumph in Class A Section 2 play at California High School.
Geibel Catholic had a 14-13 edge after the first quarter, but a 17-8 advantage for California (3-1, 3-10) in the second quarter provided the home team with a 30-22 halftime lead. The Gators’ 16-6 advantage in the third provided a 38-36 lead heading into the fourth.
The Trojans’ Noah Neil scored a game-high 25 points and pulled down 16 rebounds. California’s Vinny Manzella had 20 points, including four 3-pointers.
Geibel’s Gary Tarbuk scored 21 points and teammate Tommy Kolencik put in 14.
Yough 55, McGuffey 42
Terek Crosby scored 24 points to lead the Cougars to a 55-42 victory at McGuffey in Class 3A Section 4 play.
Yough (3-1, 8-4) had a 25-21 lead at halftime, but took advantage in the third quarter after outscoring the Highlanders, 17-7. McGuffey had a 14-13 edge in the fourth period.
The Cougars’ Austin Matthews and Ryan Westerman had 12 points apiece.
Aydan Cunningham led the Highlanders (1-3, 10-4) in scoring with 17 points. Teammate Grayson Wallace added 15.
South Fayette 60, North Hills 51
Michael Plasko poured in a game-high a game-high 30 points as South Fayette held off visiting North Hills 60-51 in Class 5A Section 4.
After trailing by one point after one quarter, SF (3-1, 7-6) forged a one-point halftime edge and pulled away in the second half.
Nathan Schanbacher led three players in double figures for North Hills (1-3, 5-7) with 20 points.
Charleroi 57, Brownsville 42
Charleroi gave its playoff hopes a boost with a 57-42 victory over visiting Brownsville in Class 3A Section 4.
Bryce Large scored a game-high 22 points for the Cougars, who improved to 2-3 in section and 6-8 overall. Brownsville is 1-5, 5-9.
Charleroi led 23-20 at halftime and pulled away in the second half.
Monessen 80, Mapletown 36
Lorenzo Gardner led four Monessen players in double figures with 24 points as the Greyhounds rolled over Mapletown 80-36 in Class A Section 2.
Gardner scored 16 of his points in the first half, which ended with Monessen (3-0, 9-1) leading 39-17. Mapletown (1-3, 2-9) led 15-12 after one quarter but was outscored 27-2 in the second.
Timothy Kershaw had 14 points for Monessen, Darryl Ray tossed in 13 and Devonate Robinson had 11.
Roger Gradek’s 11 points were tops for Mapletown.
Girls results
Chartiers-Houston 47, Monessen 35
Amelia Brose led three Chartiers-Houston players in double figures with 16 points as the Bucs won 47-35 in a non-section game at Monessen.
C-H (9-4) took control early, opening a 29-18 halftime lead. Monessen closed to within 34-29 after three quarters but the Bucs won with a 13-6 edge in the fourth.
Ava Capozzoli scored 13 points for the Bucs and Allison Wingard had 10.
Myasia Majors led Monessen (6-3) with eight points.
Brownsville 62, Charleroi 47:
Skyler Gates and Ava Clark combined for 49 points, powering Brownsville to a 62-47 win over Charleroi in a Class 3A Section 3 game on the Falcons’ home court.
Gates poured in a game-high 32 points and Clark added 17 as Brownsville (1-2, 8-6) won for the first time in section. The Falcons led 30-25 at halftime and pulled away in the second half.
Bella Carroto had 22 points to lead Charleroi (0-4, 5-7) and Ella Sypolt followed with 13.
Southmoreland 42, Ringgold 30
Southmoreland gradually pulled away from visiting Ringgold to earn its first win of the season, 42-30, Thursday in Class 4A Section 3.
Bea Pawlikowsky scored 10 points for Southmoreland (1-4, 1-11), which led 18-9 at halftime.
Addison Jenkins tallied 10 points for Ringgold (0-5, 3-10).
