High school basketball: South Fayette wins with buzzer-beater in 2nd OT

Gino Satira’s three-pointer from the top of the key as time expired in double overtime as South Fayette edged West Allegheny 44-41 Tuesday night in Class 5A Section 4 boys basketball action.
The game was tied at 33 heading into the first overtime session. Both teams scored 4 points apiece to send the contest into a second overtime. The Lions (4-1, 8-6) had a 7-4 edge in the second overtime.
South Fayette had an 11-6 lead after the first quarter before the Indians (0-5, 10-6) used an 11-3 advantage in the second quarter for a 17-14 halftime lead.
South Fayette had a 12-7 advantage in the third quarter for a two-point lead heading into the fourth, but West Allegheny’s Ty Blatz hit a three-pointer from 30 feet away to end the period.
Peters Township 74, Bethel Park 47
Jack Dunbar led five players in double figures with 18 points and Peters Township dominated the middle quarters en route to a 74-47 thumping of Bethel Park in a key Class 5A Section 1 game at AHN Arena.
Peters Township improves to 4-1 in the section and 10-4 overall. The Indians are a half-game behind section leader Thomas Jefferson (4-0). Bethel Park slips to 3-2 in the section and 8-6 overall.
PT led 13-9 after one quarter and then got its offense in high gear. The Indians scored 22 points in each of the next two quarters to open a 57-35 lead entering the final eight minutes. Peters Township made 14 three-point field goals.
Cam Mills and Sean Thelk each tallied 12 points for PT and Nick McCullough and Dylan Donovan had 10 apiece in the balanced attack.
Nick Brown scored a game-high 19 points for Bethel Park. Shawn Davis followed with 13.
Belle Vernon 63, Elizabeth Forward 60
The Leopards had a five-point lead at halftime and hung on for a 63-60 victory over the Warriors in a Class 4A Section 3 play at Belle Vernon.
Belle Vernon (3-2, 8-4) had a 19-18 lead after the first quarter and a 31-26 halftime advantage. Elizabeth Forward (1-3, 9-5) cut the deficit to 49-46 heading into the fourth period, and despite tying the game at 55 late in the final frame, it couldn’t pull out the win.
The Leopards had four players in double figures with Zion Moore’s 19 points leading the way. Trevor Kovatch added 14 and Curtis (12) and Alonzo (10) Wade also contributed for the home team.
The Warriors also had four players in double digits, as Isaiah Turner put in a team-high 15 points. Cy Herchelroath had 14, Daniel Spence dropped 11 and Charlie Meehleib 10.
Yough 56, Charleroi 34
Yough jumped out to an early lead en route to a 56-34 victory over Charleroi in Class 3A Section 4 action at Yough.
Yough (4-1, 9-4) had a 14-7 lead after the first and a 25-9 halftime advantage. Both teams scored 13 in the third before the home team had an 18-12 edge in the fourth.
Yough’s Terek Crosby had a game-high 20 points. Austin Matthews added 17 and Zander Aird 12.
Charleroi (2-3, 6-8) was led in scoring by Jackson Keranko, who had 17 points.
Mt. Lebanon 64, Canon-McMillan 36
The Blue Devils were never in danger during their 64-36 victory over the Big Macs in Class 6A Section 2 play at Mt. Lebanon.
The Blue Devils (4-1, 12-2) had an 11-point lead after the first quarter that was extended to 21 at halftime. Mt. Lebanon had a 16-5 advantage in the third before Canon-McMillan (2-3, 7-8) had an 8-4 edge in the fourth.
Mt. Lebanon’s Nate Girod had a game-high 17 points, including five 3-pointers. The Blue Devils’ LIam Sheely (16), Riley Farabaugh (11) and Brady Barber (10) were also in double figures.
Ryan Galicic led the Big Macs in scoring with 11.

Peters Township 52, Canon-McMillan 42
The Big Macs hung tough for three quarters, but an eight-point advantage in the fourth quarter pushed Peters Township to a 52-42 triumph in Class 6A Section 2 action at AHN Arena Tuesday night.
Peters Township improved to 6-0 in section play and 15-0 overall while Canon-McMillan fell to 3-3 in the section and 10-5 overall.
The Indians clung to a 31-29 lead heading into the fourth quarter before out-scoring the Big Macs, 21-13, in the final period. Peters Township had an 11-10 edge after the first quarter and led, 24-23, at halftime.
The Indians’ Gemma Walker led all scorers with 22 points. Natalie Wetzel (14) and Brianna Morreale (10) put in double digits for Peters Township.
Nadia Davis led Canon-McMillan in scoring with 13 points and teammate Lauren Borella added 12.
Laurel Highlands 64, Ringgold 18
Aierra Jenkins totaled 17 points and nine rebounds as the Fillies improved to 12-1 overall and 5-1 in Class 4A Section 3 with a 64-18 win over Ringgold on Monday.
Laurel Highlands also got 17 points from Miya Harris and 15 points and eight rebounds from Ayrianna Sumpter.
Naomi McNary had eight points for Ringgold (0-6, 3-13).
