Colts rally to defeat Hillers in overtime

Chartiers Valley rallied from a seven-point halftime deficit to defeat Trinity, 48-43, in non-section play on Saturday at Trinity.
The Hillers (11-3) led 29-22 heading into the third quarter, but the Colts (12-2) clamped down defensively to outscore the home team, 13-6, in the second half. Chartiers Valley had a 13-8 advantage in the overtime period.
The Colts’ Rachel Boehm had a game-high 15 points. Teammate Emma Reynolds added 12.
Trinity was led in scoring by Ruby Morgan and Maddy Roberts, who scored 13 points apiece.
Monessen 37, Beth-Center 27
The Bulldogs cut their deficit to four after three quarters, but the Greyhounds used a six-point advantage in the fourth period for a 37-27 victory in non-section play.
Monessen (9-3) had a 17-9 halftime lead before Beth-Center (7-8) outscored the Greyhounds, 12-8, in the third period. Monessen had a 12-6 advantage in the final frame.
Na’Jaziah Carter led the Greyhounds in scoring with 11 points.
The Bulldogs’ Abby Shashura had a game-high 14 points.
Clairton 76, California 36
Iyanna Wade scored 42 points in the Bears’ 76-36 non-section victory over the Trojans at Clairton.
The Bears (12-2) had a 19-13 lead after the first and increased their halftime advantage to 47-18 after out-scoring the visitors, 28-5, in the second period. Clairton had an 18-8 edge in the third and an 11-10 advantage in the fourth.
Jamiya Childs (11) and Karma Fuqua (10) were also in double figures for the Bears.
California (7-8) was led in scoring by Hayley Gibson’s 13 points.
Waynesburg 51, Washington 23
The Raiders continued their solid play in a 51-23 non-section victory against the Prexies in a home contest.
Waynesburg led 31-9 at halftime and cruised to victory.
The Raiders’ Kayley Rohanna scored a game-high 16 points. Josie Horne added 14 for Waynesburg, who improved to 15-1.
Kaprice Johnson led the Prexies (7-8) in scoring with 9 points.
Boys basketball
Chartiers Valley 63, Trinity 54
The Colts used a strong second quarter en route to a 63-54 triumph over the Hillers at Trinity in non-section play.
After both teams scored 17 in the first quarter, Chartiers Valley took control in out-scoring the home team, 18-10. The Colts had a 19-17 edge in the third before the Hillers had a 10-9 advantage in the fourth.
Trinity’s Jacob Dunkle scored a game-high 23 points. Kaden Hathaway (13) and Jonah Williamson (11) were also in double digits for the Hillers.
Chartiers Valley’s TJ Kubiscek scored 15 points. Teammate Jayden Davis put in 12 and Julius Best added 10.
Monessen 77, Beth-Center 58
The Greyhounds trailed by five after the first quarter but a 15-point advantage in the second was enough to propel the visitors to a 77-58 triumph in non-section play.
Monessen (11-1) had four players in double figures with Rodney Johnson’s 16 points leading the way. Dennis Hawkins scored 15, and Darryl Ray and Tyvaughn Kershaw had 12 points apiece.
Beth-Center’s Santino Revi scored a game-high 21 points. Teammate Jonah Sussan added 10.
Waynesburg 63, Mapletown 33
The Raiders outscored the Maples by 34 in the second and third quarters on their way to a 63-33 non-section win at Waynesburg.
Waynesburg’s Cole Headlee scored 20 points. Dane Woods added 18 and Alex Vansickle 13 for the home team.
Mapletown’s Josh Mick led the game in scoring with 23 points. Teammate Roger Gradek added 10.
South Fayette 66, Avonworth 56
The Lions took control in the second quarter en route to a 66-56 victory in non-section play Friday night.
South Fayette’s Michael Plasko had a team-high 27 points. Teammate Nate Deanes had 12 and Noah Knox put in 10.
The Antelopes’ Rowan Carmichael had a game-high 28 points.
