Allison’s week

Allison scored a game-high 21 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter, to lead West Greene to a 46-43 victory at Monessen last Wednesday.

The Pioneers’ victory at the home of the Greyhounds is believed to be a first for West Greene boys basketball.

Allison scored 17 points in last Friday’s 61-49 win against California, who handed the Pioneers their only Class A Section 2 loss this season.

Despite putting up solid scoring numbers in two of West Greene’s biggest wins this year, Allison credits his coaches and teammates.

“I want to thank my teammates and coaches because they help me so much,” Allison said. “We have really good chemistry as a team, and I really believe that helped against Monessen. We all share the ball and all average around two assists a game.”

While the scoring leaders may grab the headlines, defense wins games, and championships, which was key in the victory at Monessen.

“We ran our defensive set, played off each other and just had fun,” Allison said. “We got out on their shooters and that was very important. We are playing them pretty soon because the first game was postponed because of the weather.”

West Greene hosts Monessen on Friday at 7 p.m. Both teams have one section loss.

Allison also plays baseball and football, but likes to play golf when he can find the time.

“Golf is a great game that is a change of pace from sports like basketball and football that are more in your face,” Allison said.

The great outdoors: Greene County provides its residents with plenty of opportunity for outdoor activities, and Allison is no exception as he is an avid turkey hunter.

“I love playing sports, but turkey hunting is one of my favorite things to do,” Allison said. “Obviously, I live in an area that provides plenty of opportunities to go hunting. It is kind of like golf in that the intensity doesn’t resemble basketball and football. It provides a time to relax and enjoy nature.”

Playing at the next level

Allison still has the remainder of this season and the next to decide if he wants to compete in college, and basketball will be his sport of choice.

“I’d like to play basketball at the collegiate level,” Allison said. “I haven’t made any decisions, but I hope we can make the playoffs. That way, more people will be at the games and I can get some exposure.”

If Allison and the Pioneers keep playing at the level they are now, the college looks will be coming fast and furious.
