Martin, Humbert get all-state honors

Belle Vernon’s Quinton Martin and Fort Cherry’s Matt Sieg continue to pile up honors for their outstanding play on the football field this season.
Martin was named the Class 3A Player of the Year by the Pennsylvania Football Writers. The group released its all-state teams for Class A, 2A and 3A Thursday morning.
Belle Vernon’s Matt Humbert was named the Class 3A Coach of the Year after guiding the Leopards to WPIAL and PIAA championships for the second consecutive year.
Martin, who rushed for 1,202 yards and caught 54 passes, was joined by two teammates on the all-state team. Braden Laux was selected as a defensive end and Adam LaCarte as a defensive back. Laux also played quarterback for Belle Vernon and LaCarte was the Defensive Player of the Year in the Interstate Conference.
Sieg was one of two Fort Cherry players selected to the Class A all-state squad. Senior Lou Ryan was named as an offensive lineman.
Sieg, Fort Cherry’s sophomore quarterback was the Observer-Reporter Player of the Year. He rushed for 2,389 yards, passed for 1,670 and accounted for 63 touchdowns.
Sieg and Ryan helped Fort Cherry to its first WPIAL Class A championship and a runner-up finish in the PIAA playoffs.
