The McGuffey School Board hired Nate Parry as the Highlanders’ head varsity football coach Thursday night.

Parry replaces Ed Dalton, who resigned last month after 12 seasons as the Highlanders’ coach. Dalton remains McGuffey’s athletic director.

Parry has been a longtime assistant at McGuffey. Dalton said he strongly recommended the hiring of Parry, who inherits a program that made the WPIAL playoffs nine times under Dalton. McGuffey had an 8-4 record this season and advanced to the WPIAL Class 2A quarterfinals. The Highlanders are expected to play in Class 3A next season.
