High school wrestling: Burgettstown handles shorthanded Wash High

Burgettstown, the defending WPIAL Class AA team champion, opened the dual meet portion of its season Wednesday with a 69-6 victory over shorthanded Washington on the Blue Devils’ mats.

Washington had only four wrestlers. Of the four bouts that were contested, Burgettstown won three. Parker Sentipal (139), Rudy Brown (152) both won by first-period fall and heavyweight Joseph Baroncik was a 3-1 winner.

The lone victory for Wash High came at 189, where Tyler Roberts won with a first-period fall.

Bentworth 46, Jefferson-Morgan 21

Bentworth dominated the light weights and went on to a 46-21 victory over Jefferson-Morgan.

Bentworth won five of the six lightest weight classes, with four of the wins coming via pin.

Baylee Oreski (107), Drake McClure (121), Ben Luketich (127), Chris Vargo (133), Owen Ivcic (152) and Vitali Daniels (215) each won with first-period pins for the Bearcats.

Carson Sweeney (114), Johnny Gilbert (145) and Chase Frameli (160) won with pins for J-M.

McGuffey 36, Beth-Center 24

Victor Bonus (145), Brennan Mullins (152) and Tucker Main (114) each won by fall, McGuffey picked up two key forfeits and the Highlanders won enough of the close bouts to win 36-24 at Beth-Center.

The Highlanders benefitted from the two forfeits and helped their cause by winning a 2-0 bout and one by a 6-4 score.

Jake Layhew (189) won by pin for Beth-Center.
