Canon-McMillan wrestling leads the way with four top seeds for Saturday’s inaugural WPIAL girls individual championships at North Allegheny High School.
The Big Macs’ Valarie Solorio (100 pounds), Capri Chambers (106), Audrey Colgaro (170) and Natalie Rush (190) will look to be one of the five in their respective weight classes to finish in the top five and advance to the PIAA West Regional Championships on March 2 at Canon-McMillan High School.
Trinity’s Elaina Ashby is the No. 1 seed at 148.
Bentworth, Burgettstown, Fort Cherry, Peters Township and Ringgold also field girls teams.
If PIAA District 8 (City League) can’t fill a weight class with a wrestler, then the WPIAL’s sixth-place finisher in that weight class will qualify for the west regional tournament.
WPIAL Class 2A Southern Sectional:
Bentworth’s Drake McClure, Chris Vargo and Vitali Daniels earned No. 1 seed for Saturday’s WPIAL Class 2A Southern Section tournament at Burgettstown.
McClure is the top seed at 114, Vargo at 127 and Daniels at 189.
The host Blue Devils have two No. 1 seeds in Parker Sentipal (133) and Gaven Suica (139). McGuffey has a pair of top seeds in Tucker Main (107) and Emmett Wolfe (121).
Jefferson-Morgan’s Chase Frameli (160) and Belle Vernon’s Elijah Brown (172) will be on the top of the bracket in their respective weights.
Beth-Center, Chartiers-Houston, Fort Cherry, Washington and West Greene will also be looking for their wrestlers to qualify for the WPIAL Class 2A individual championship on Feb. 23-24 at Chartiers Valley High School.
The top six in each weight class advance to the WPIAL individual tournament.
