Baldwin deals Canon-McMillan first loss

Baldwin handed Canon-McMillan its first loss of the season, 40-29, in Class 3A Section 6 action Wednesday night.
With the dual meet beginning at 121 pounds, the Big Macs (2-1, 3-1) had a 17-0 lead after three bouts with Collier Hartman (121) and Andrew Binni (127) winning by fall and Vincent Binni (133) earning a 17-1 technical fall.
The Highlanders (2-1, 2-1) came back with falls by Ramil Islamov (139) and Mike Griffiths (145) before C-M’s Mikhail Krenzelak (152) won 11-9 to increase the Big Macs’ advantage to 20-12.
Keith Mincin pulled Baldwin within two with a pin at 160 before Brayden Collins earned a 4-3 decision for the visitors at 172.
Andrew Sharp (189) and Tyler Carter (215) recorded back-to-back falls as Baldwin took the lead for good.
The Big Macs’ Geno Calgaro bumped up to heavyweight and won by fall to cut Canon-McMillan’s deficit to 30-29, but Baldwin won by a forfeit and major decision in the final two bouts.
Bethel Park (3-0, 7-1) leads the section standings. The top three schools from each section will qualify for the WPIAL team tournament.
McGuffey 39, Bentworth 29
McGuffey handed Bentworth its first loss of the season in a 39-29 victory in Class 2A Section 1 action at McGuffey High School.
The Highlanders (4-1, 9-1) trailed 39-37 with two bouts remaining, but Tucker Main and Lane Ealy earned falls at 107 and 114 pounds to clinch the win.
The Bearcats (4-1, 4-1) started off strong, as the dual meet began at 121, and Drake McClure scored a reversal and hung on for a 2-0 decision over Emmett Wolfe for a 3-0 lead.
Lucas Barr (127), Garrett Newman (139), Victor Bonus (160) and Reid Teagarden (172) won by fall for McGuffey.
Bentworth’s Chris Vargo bumped up to win by fall at 133 and teammate Owen Ivcic recorded a pin at 145.
Vitali Daniels earned a technical fall in 4:00 at 189 for the Bearcats.
Both teams remain in contention to clinch a spot in the Class 2A team tournament as one of the top three in their section. Defending Class 2A team champion Burgettstown currently sits in first place at 5-0.
Burgettstown 54, Fort Cherry 21
The Blue Devils remain undefeated following a 54-21 victory over Fort Cherry.
Burgettstown (5-0, 5-0) had five wrestlers record pins: Darius Simmons (107), Dylan Slovich (127), Parker Sentipal (139), Gaven Suica (145) and Eric Kovach (160).
The Rangers’ Shawn Robertson (121), Braedon Welsh (172) and Anthony Salvini (189) won by fall.
Trinity 50, South Fayette 16
Trinity remains atop Class 3A Section 5 following a 50-16 victory over the Lions.
Trinity (3-0, 6-0) had six wrestlers record falls in Mickey Horne (107), Dominick Canali (121), Devin Junko (133), Cael Nicolella (172), Robbie Allison (189) and Adam Watson (215).
The Hillers’ Blake Reihner won by technical fall at 139.
Jonathan Baiano (127) and Luke Dunlap (160) won by fall for South Fayette (2-1, 5-4).
Peters Township 46, Upper St. Clair 24
The Indians recorded five falls, two technical falls and two decisions in a 46-24 win in Class 3A Section 6.
Nicholas McGarrity (107), Isaac Meyers (121), Chris Cibrone (152), Darius McMillon (160) and Parker Nave (172) recorded falls for PT (2-1, 13-4). They sit in a tie with Baldwin and Canon-McMillan in second place.
Moon 39, Waynesburg 34
Moon won two matches by forfeit that turned out to be the difference in a 39-34 section victory over Waynesburg.
Waynesburg’s Floyd Huff (114), Ky Szewczyk (127), Joe Simon (133), Jake Stephenson (189) and Roan Tustin (285) won by fall.
Moon’s Cael Yanek (121), Joseph Maritato (139), Elijah Thomas (145) and Liam Costa (152) won by fall.
Beth-Center 36, West Greene 21
Three forfeits proved costly to West Greene in a 36-21 setback to Beth-Center in Class 2A Section 1.
The Pioneers’ Noah Collins (114), Levi Yeater (145) and Colin Whyte (215) won by fall.
Beth-Center’s Jake Layhue recorded a pin in 1:08 at 189.
Jefferson-Morgan 63, Washington 6
Johnny Gilbert (145), Brenton Barnhart (152) and Brock Bayles (189) won by fall and teammate Mason Sisler won 3-2 in double overtime at heavyweight, sparking Jefferson-Morgan to a 63-6 win over Washington in Class 2A Section 1.
The Prexies’ Caleb Patton (139) started the dual meet by winning by fall in 34 seconds.
Belle Vernon 60, Ligonier Valley 6
Belle Vernon won six bouts by fall and picked up four forfeits en route to a 60-6 non-section victory.
The Leopards’ Colby Hibner (133), Giovanni Weightman (139), Dominik Skibicki (152), Elijah Brown (172), Austin Hoffman (189) and Luke Bryer (215) won by fall.
Norwin 43, Ringgold 16
Norwin defeated Ringgold 43-16 in Class 3A Section 3.
The Rams (1-2, 14-3) were hurt by not scoring bonus points, as Jack Duncan had the lone fall at 160.
Teammate Jake Conroy bumped up to 285 and won by decision for is 100th-career victory.
