The Wild Things have signed first baseman and corner outfielder Tyreque Reed, a former Texas Rangers and Boston Red Sox farmhand.

Reed last played in the Red Sox organization in 2022, appearing in 50 games for Double-A Portland. In 187 plate appearances, he batted .198 with six home runs and 25 RBI. It was his second stint with Portland. He appeared in 44 games with the Sea Dogs in 2021.

Drafted by Texas in the 8th round in 2017 of Itawamba Community College, Reed played three seasons in the Rangers’ farm system, hitting 18 home runs for Class A Hickory and 18 more in 2019 while playing for three affiliates.

The 26-year-old Reed was selected in the minor league Rule 5 draft by Boston in 2020.
