Wild Things improve to 9-0 on the road in victory at Florence

FLORENCE, Ky. — Washington continued its strong play on the road in an 11-5 victory over Florence on Friday at Thomas More Stadium.
The Wild Things improved to 9-0 on the road this season. Washington is 4-5 at home but it moved into first place in the West after Schaumburg loss to Trois-Rivieres. The Wild Things (13-5) won their fourth straight and only trail East-leading New York (14-4) for the best record in the Frontier League.
Washington scored six runs in the fifth inning, as Andrew Czech, Wagner Lagrange and Tommy Caufield produced run-scoring doubles, Caleb McNeely drew a bases-loaded walk and Ethan Wilder hit a two-run single for an 8-4 lead after failing behind by two in the fourth, which also saw Wild Things manager Tom Vaeth ejected by the home plate umpire.
Washington extended its advantage to 11-4 in the sixth with three runs on an RBI single by Tyreque Reed and a two-run single by Robert Chayka.
Ashton Creal’s solo home run in the seventh got the Y’alls (6-11) within six.
Carson Clowers’ two-run single in the second provided the Wild Things for a 2-0 lead.
Washington starter Malik Barrington earned the win by allowing four runs over five innings. Barrington improved to 2-1 on the season. Barrington didn’t allow a hit until the fourth.
Nick MacDonald threw a scoreless sixth, Liam Pulsipher yielded the home run to Creal, but that was all the damage done over his two frames and Christian James pitched a scoreless ninth.
The Wild Things had 16 hits, including two or more from Caufield, Clowers, Chayka, Reed and Lagrange. Chayka, Wilder and Clowers had two RBI apiece.
