McNeely has 4 hits in Wild Things win

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – Caleb McNeely had four hits and drove in three runs as the Wild Things defeated the Schaumburg Boomers 9-6 Friday night in a series opener at Wintrust Field.

Washington scored the first seven runs of the game, then held off a late charge by Schaumburg to win for the third time in four games on the road trip.

The Wild Things led 2-0 after two innings and scored five times in the third. McNeely had a two-run triple in the third inning.

McNeely added an RBI single in the fifth that gave Washington an 8-1 lead. Schaumburg closed to within 9-6 in the sixth when the Boomers knocked out Wild Things starter Jordan DiValerio (4-1).

Reliever Justin Goossen-Brown got the final two outs of the sixth and pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief. Ryan Munoz retired all three of the batter he faced in the ninth for his first save.

Ethan Wilder drove in two runs for Washington. Robert Chayka, Wilder and Tommy Caufield, the first three hitters in the Wild Things’ batting order, combined for six hits.

Evan Orzech hit a home run for Schaumburg.
